I've seriously considered this before. One of the main issues would be transportation - since public transportation is lacking in my city and I work nightshift so wouldn't always be available to drive someone around. The other issue is that I'd have to do a bit of remodeling to turn my guest room into a place where someone would be able to live long-term instead of being just a weekend crash-pad. Financially, I'm just shy of being able to support two people on my paycheck...maybe in a few years once the house is paid off I'll consider doing something like this more concretely

I can do better than that: I'm willing to take lots of them into my country, and pay more tax to pay for more houses to be built so they have a place to live while they find their feet and start contributing.

Alas, I live in a studio apartment, so the likelihood that I could pull something like that off is pretty slim. But if I could, I would gladly pitch in.

No way. Unless they were Buddhists. Or a nonreligious Hispanic-but depends on the person. Besides, I'm living in Thailand right now.

Come on down! I applied for a family once but only have one bathroom....seemed ridiculous they wouldn't welcome anything other than a displacement camp......

We humans are strange beings. We seem to be more willing to take in an abandoned dog or cat than one of our own species.

I would absolutely be willing to take in an immigrant. I have room for one. They would even have their own room.

I think I am too selfish and set in my ways to do this. I would, however, make a financial contribution.

It would be nothing new for me really, I have taken in so many kids that were kicked out of home. They all did the right thing, sorted themselves out and got their lives under control, far better than their own parents ever did.
That said, I am not in favour of immigration, this country is the driest on the planet, don't believe what the tourism industry tells you. I won't go to a lot of it. With climate change, I feel Australia should be preparing to take in people from the Pacific Nations and I would be willing to help them re-establish.
