I'm not advocating isolationism. I'm simply saying immigration should be controlled. There is a process in place. I'm simply against illegal immigration.

@bigpawbullets I understand....if we allowed everyone we might soon have a nation of 7 Billion people. Perhaps we need to focus more energy in exporting democracy, and American values of the Bill of Rights to others in the world.

I don't think so Nick. Nation Building and exporting "Freedom" has been a disaster since way before Vietnam. It's a great idea on paper. But I've found that most folks living in other lands want to continue their own form of culture.

Yet they all want to come here. I was in Viet Nam and our interpreter wanted me to marry his sister and bring her to the USA so eventually his whole family could be Americans. I met his sister...she was young and beautiful, and spoke a little English....but I turned down his offer. @bigpawbullets

Every ‘country’ outside Africa is composed of immigrants.. And, most are now filled to, or beyond capacity. Is there no end to our generosity, or ignorance?

There have been proposals to run pipes from the great lakes down to the southwest USA. The lakes are fresh water. Personally I would rather spend 25 billion on water pipes than building a wall on the Mexican border. @Varn

@nicknotes Other than both Hillary and Bernie’s ‘open borders mentality,’ I’d be thrilled beyond containment to find every proposal Bernie desired become the current law of that land, and have no doubt, had Congress brought such bills to Hillary, she’d have signed them without hesitation. But, this nation, as HRC knew ..is not ready for that.. Sometimes, I wonder if it’s ready for ‘the ash heap of history’ instead...

I appreciate your clarification of the process Deno. But, by definition of illegal alien, I'd suspect many do what you described and work their way into the system. Hasn't California started to issue driver's licenses to illegal aliens? Or, is this another Internet / urban myth?

@bigpawbullets I do suspect that many do as I have posted and just hope to mingle into the system. I've heard of drivers licenses for illegal aliens but notice the word "illegal" is still in the mix. This idea would simply be a way of making insurance money off the illegal who otherwise might not even have a drivers license. What would such license look like? I do not know.

@bigpawbullets I suspect CA provides drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. Oregon was about to do the same; with tremendous money spent promoting a statewide ballot measure to allow such licenses - every county in ‘Blue Oregon’ except one (portland metro) voted against it! This confirmed to me how (often secretately) sick the vast majority are of this illegal invasion.

For that reason, it’s a losing issue for Democrats… of which I’ve been associated with for decades

@DenoPenno Insurance companies profit from everyone, but the same people willing to sneak into another nation have no qualms about driving without a license while there. Thus, they have no insurance, which in Oregon became a major problem...

@Varn Have you ever noticed that Canada does not appear to have this problem? It doesn't appear that anyone there is "sneaking in another nation." Oh, that's right. They don't have Trump, do they? Open borber but there is no "crisis" at their border.

The political segment (republicans) you describe wants them for cheap labor; the political segment you ignored wants them as an underclass presumably (eventually) voting democrat.. A lose-lose scenario for our already overburdened, resource depleted, ever-increasingly congested and competitive nation…

@DenoPenno I’ve not monitored Canada with regard to illegal immigration. Apparently, central american economic opportunists continue to find the usa generous to a fault and so unwilling (till now) to enforce our immigration laws as to ‘seek no further.’ I have met numerous canadian nationals living & working within the us, but they stood in line, met the requirements … one actually returning to canada for a period before returning to her teaching job in the US. ...one even married my former wife.. Canada’s not our problem.

@Varn Did Mexico become our problem when Trump ran for office with a promise to build a wall? I've heard for years that they keep finding tunnels. Will they give them up when Trump builds the wall? I just can't buy it. If Trump has his way I'm scared shitless that the illegals will discover airplanes.

@Varn BTW, if you think illegals are "unwilling to fight for or instill within their nations" a system like ours that they "want to steal" you need to understand that maybe the political system for them has made it almost impossible to fight. A little too much of Trump and that is exactly what is going to happen here. Trump is not your buddy. He's just the one in power right now.

Maybe 20 years ago they were coming ashore off the coast of Oregon with sack lunches and descriptions to the nearest towns … as a way of circumventing the ‘land border.’ It’s a problem that’s never been resolved. Reagan granted an amnesty, that included increased enforcement. The amnesty happened, but the enforcement didn’t..

Trump is no ones buddy, he’s a political opportunist that accidently got one right.. The wall’s idiotic, enforcement of existing laws, as they’re finally attempting to do ..is all that’s needed. It’s ironic how many in the US ‘celebrate cinco de mayo,’ Mexico needs a revolution - not us.

What’s also ignored is the fact these economic ‘refugees’ are crossing several countries - including the length of Mexico - to get here. Why not stop in Mexico, they even speak the same language? ...Mexico doesn't want them.. Is Mexico’s largest cash influx still the remittance of US dollars sent home from their ‘expatriots’...? It once was..

The USA is generous beyond all other nations with regard to immigration - but in order to maintain a standard of living worth ..living, there needs to be a limit … and it needs enforced.

I cannot give you a specific example of an individual illegally entering the country Jen. I can only evaluate the information provided by the Border Patrol & ranchers whose land borders Mexico. I do have personal experience in seeing illegal entry into our country around Nogales, but that was back in the late 70s.

The “plaque on the statue of liberty” was not sanctioned by the US government, it was placed there by a private organization ..likely religious.

Those fleeing across several central american nations to sneak into mine should fix their own. Were they here to fight for workers rights, civil rights, states rights, no. They’ve come here because it’s easier than doing the same at home.
