What would you do if some of your Facebook friends were constantly posting those corny Hallmark memes about god, and how everything happens for the best, etc.? Sometimes I'm tempted to respond, which ofcourse would not please them, but mostly I just continue to scrowl. Have concidered unfriending them. Another question, does anyone else wonder if these religious folks ever see your comments on other sites, like FFR, or other threads that are public?
I can't and don't snark on FB because I use it for a specific community. The only time I'll say something is if someone else posts a like minded thing on their wall.... maybe. 90% of the ppl in my FB list are unfortnately right wing ?
I've unfollowed a lot of people, but have caved and unfriended hateful people, and that's rampant these days, because you can see the guano psychos crying that people are blocking and unfriending over certain heinous current events."Philosophies, and politics" they cry, shouldn't come between friends....right wing whacks posting Jeffersonian quotes. smh
Serves them right tho.
I have religious friends who post religious stuff and I always answer it in a funny rude manner. When they ask me about it, I just tell them what I think in a rude funny way. So far they do not seem to either understand or they still want to be my friends.
Do these so called friends know you are an atheist? I have always let my friends know that I am a Humanist. if they sent me any religious messages I would tell them to stop as it was disrespectful to my beliefs. I’m sure you don't try to change their belief in god by sending anti-christian messages so it is reasonable for you to object to them doing this to you.
Well I did post something with Pope Frances now declaring that religion isn't necessary in order to be a good person. I thought this revelation was earth shattering and wrote a headline saying; "The Pope just announced that religion is obsolete, paving the way for World peace!" Oddly, it was completely ignored.
@friendlycatlady Not really a surprise. They have their minds firm,y closed.
Exactly, that's the way I see it. Stop telling me that your god wants to intervene on my behalf, and respect the fact that I don't need or want his guidance. Also stop constantly telling me how blessed you are, and what my life is lacking.
I often wonder if my comments on atheist pages appear on anyone's timeline also. It's nearly impossible to test cause who knows what FB does. I just comment away and don't worry about it. If they see it, more power to me
I think your comments do appear to people on your friends list, who follow you. I say this because a distant relative of mine usually "likes" these comments. I think that is pretty cool, because until then I had no idea that he shared these sentiments. As far as others go, if they don't like it, I guess they can "unfriend", or "unfollow" me. I wouldn't really care.
Exactly. That's how I feel too.
If the original post came from somewhere else you may have the option to block that instead. Eventually you will get most of the sources blocked. It's worked quite well for me with my southern christian conservative cousins. I also managed to block most of their pro-Trump BS articles.
My method is to try just editing what I see from them or unfollowing if necessary. I have unfriended an old school classmate (no loss) and my sister in law who is bent on saving my soul. I couldn't post without a sermonette.
I'd snooze them for a month. If you don't miss them when they come back in your feed, delete them from the feed but choose the option to stay friends.
find some much better ones[ piss takes ] and fill their post boxes
The thing is that i know a few of them personally and they DO NOT follow at all the quotes and polite sayings that they put on FB. Can you spell hippocrit?
I also just unfollow anyone that shares too much of anything annoying.
As for seeing your posts on other sites the answer is possibly.
If someone googled you they could potentially see a post you made on an unrelated site. If facebook should at some time in the future become affiliated with or absorb those other sites, your previous comments could become visible. I personally find this extremely unlikely to happen since your posts would quickly be buried beneath new ones but the possibility does exist.
Posts you make on facebook in groups or on pages CAN be seen by your friends and no way to tell which ones will be featured on their feed. At this time your posts in closed groups are safe unless your friends are in the same group.
I have friends on Facebook posting stuff about God and Jesus. I just scroll on thru, I don't give a like, reaction, nor do I comment on it. People are going to believe what they believe and that's really it.
Most of the right wingers I know have uncomraded me because of my responses.
I have often wondered if there were courses you could go on that helped you chill out on all these unpleasant things I think because I was an abused child I do a lot of fingers in my ears moments when everything gets too much but that doesnt work for the written word - You could unfriend them and if they pull you on it say - "oh I am so sorry. I had too many friends and had to do a bit of pruning! in order to stay sane!'
