I am a sarcastic prick and think of all sorts of smartass things to write in the comment section, but I usually think it instead of actually type it nowadays.

I think because then we are no different than a religion. Where you support the person on your side in a single aspect of life and then support every thing they say regardless of topic. People's feelings are not more important than yours. However taking discussions and or disagreements personally is something only you can control...the other person shouldn't be making personal attacks but at times it is inevitable that 2 people just can't discuss a topic without an attack

Not that there can't be an atheist support group but I would find it very unlikely I join one of those.
I DGAF the rest of the world "picks" on us or thinks they can bully atheists. I am happy and will defend my position but don't really care if it makes "sense" to anyone else but me. 100% of the rest of the world can disagree but won't necessarily make me change my mind because I am alone.

Your beliefs are a personal choice imo. Nobody should care whether you believe what they do or not. The problem with religion is those beliefs are all 100% in accordance with that particular denomination.

I've had that same trouble my friend. I've found that if you don't let those that disagree with you get to you, you have a much better time here. I welcome you here with open arms.

There is nothing wrong with stating a dissenting opinion. But there is NO reason to go on the offensive or to be rude about it. I believe this is still a community of mostly intelligent, compassionate people (with a few assholes in the mix). We should be able to converse in a civilized manner.

I have attended secular group meetings in the past and their mantra was "attack the idea not the person " It's a good thing to remember but when confronted with some racist bigoted person it is not always easy

Just because you are an atheist/agnostic doesn't mean you are smart, or a good person, or anything else, and the older I get, the less patience I have (and I never had much to start with!) .

Hmmmm .... It's hard for me to relate to this, so I am probably guilty somehow.

I like to think I give as good as I get. If I think I am getting "crazy", I was raised by crazy (read "insane" not "unusual" ) parents, so I can give "crazy" to any limit you care to go to.

But "sensitive" is a little harder for me to gauge, I try, but can only guess.

It's because Americans, regardless of race,religion or non, younger and old, all gender are anti people, thus anti - community, they live in their self illusional perfectionism, in America, you must be exceptional individualistic to enjoy living a productive and happier life. Forced to guess, which I am, if you are referencing liberal versus conservative or humans versus Trumpers, I call foul. People who support and often strive to emulate conservative, bible-thumping, female-domineering racist and xenophobic apes are most likely NOT here for like-minded, intelligent discourse, they are here merely to inflame.
