Active shooter drill at my grandkids school. Teachers nor students knew it was a drill. Supposedly.
My 12 yr old granddaughter was put into a closet with 9 other kids while the teacher took the rest of the students to a planning room where there was another teacher. The planning room is a room between two classrooms with a big picture window looking into it from the classroom.
The students in the closet with my granddaughter would not remain silent.. My daughter is furious that teacher wasn't IN the closet with the kids and left the classroom for the planning room. I asked how they knew teacher left if they were in a closed closet. I believe the teacher did leave the classroom since she never told the kids to hush but am not sure that she was wrong to do so. Also if the teacher got in the closet, at least 2 students would have had to leave the closet
My daughter is posting on facebook about this teacher using her name and tagging the school which may blow back on my granddaughter and so far is refusing to delete it.
My grandson who is older said they all sat on floor because these are big adult sized kids and the teacher remained with them.
I feel like my granddaughter was safer in the closet- had the other children been silent as opposed to being in a room with no desks, no closet and a big ass window to shoot through
I told her if this happens in the future to hit the floor and let the bodies of the talkers cover her.
I had discussed this with her a couple of months ago and told her to hide and be silent. She did indeed remain silent was upset the other kids wouldn't
Edited to add that I can't vent on facebook for obvious reasons so agnostic gets to hear it.
Hey, in my day they showed us footage of actual atom bomb testing (from the Southwest tests) plus "what to do" and then we practiced "duck & cover" once a month. Even we 4th graders, after seeing the footage, knew D&C wasn't gonna do sh*t for anybody.......
You describe something that sadly is needed and might work. And of course the first practice will be messy, that's why you rehearse!
They do this at my daughters school as well. They are 17 and 13. The teachers will be in for a big surprise because my instructions to my kids are to find the heaviest object they can lift and throw it out the nearest window and run like hell.
My kids are not going to sit and hide in a room to wait to be killed.
Their instructions are to get the fuck out by any means necessary.
Hope the school doesn’t mind the broken windows.
It is a shame that we even have to have active shooter drills simply because the NRA promotes an irresponsible arming of people in public places.
It’s irresponsible to blame the NRA. There are plenty of Americans that feel the same way without the NRA affiliation.
@wordywalt now if you’d like to have a civil conversation instead of jumping to conclusions I believe you misunderstood what I meant.
The NRA is only part of the problem. Just pointing the finger at them doesn’t do any good. This is a nationwide belief held by many. You can just blame the NRA.
@darthfaja I apologize. But, if we did not have the NRA, we would not have the problem of widespread and increasing gun violence. We do have to stand up to the NTA and to the people who support them. If we banned hand guns and assault weapons (weapons intended primarily to kill people), as Australia did, we would not have such a severe problem.
@darthfaja Please point out any errors in my grammar
And, I resent your statement that I am intellectually lazy. That is both false and uncalled for. I criticized your statement validly, as it did not convey the intent you assert. I was criticizing the statement, not you. In turn, your move was not exactly above reproach.
@jorj It is my perception that you are totally off base in suggesting that those factors are more significant in causing gun violence than are the greed driven actions of the NTA. Japanese culture is more into violent videogames than is that of the USA, but they have only a miniscule fraction of gun violence that we do.
@jorj Stop playing silly games to try to defend the NRA. When I pointed out that Japan has no equivalent of the NRA and has a miniscule rate of gun violence, you did not respond to my point, but threw up a lame issues of differences in family life. In effect, you ceded my point, and tried to throw a smokescreen.
Similarly, when I pointed out how the NRA is using huge sums of money to put out false propaganda and to buy corrupt political influence, you did not respond to these issues. Again, by failing to respond to my main point, you ceded the points and tried to throw up a lame smokescreen. Who do you think you are fooling? Maybe yourself?
@wordywalt you didn’t criticize my post ‘validly’
You can hardly blame the NRA for all the gun problems. Do they contribute? Heck yeah, but you can not blame them for all the problems with guns. That would be like only blaming McDonalds for obesity.
By the way saying something has validity means it is factually sound.
@wordywalt explain. Let’s see this masterful logic at work. I’m so ready.
I’m not even certain you have read anything I wrote. You are repeating the same things I’ve said.
You seem to just want to argue about nothing, yet offer up no data or proof of anything.
Except that somehow your ‘markmanship’makes you an authority.
How very of you.
Oh and by the way
Fallacious illogic?
That creates a double negative
Fake fake news
Hahaha
@wordywalt not once have I defended the NRA. As I have xplained multiple times to you, you have missed the point, and have not truly understood what I wrote.
You just want to argue.
What I’ve repeatedly said is that you can’t only blame the NRA. This is a multi teir problem.
But you have your undies in a bunch like most people these days.
NRA is an obvious trigger for you and you stop thinking and just start writing.
I’m glad you’re not an educator anymore.
@wordywalt I really think you need to re evaluate your understanding of the world. Defending democracy? What the fuck man? You don’t want the NRA yo exist but say you want to defend democracy? That’s hypocrisy at its finest. I am adamantly opposed to the NRA and all of its stances. I don’t own hand guns and don’t find them to have any use except to kill humans. I would prefer them band.
Yet I say you can’t just blame the NRA for all the problems, which you did, and suddenly I support the NRA and you tell me I’m stupid?
Seriously you at fucked up.
Active shooters work just in "gun free" zones!
Active shooter drills for children... we are truly a great country.
