ALL species for me !

...and I expected no less from you, evergreen! 🙂

@mykhael Yeah - I guess I've told you enough to be obvious !

@evergreen Yes you have.

I've been nuts over cats since I was old enough to pet one. I like dogs, too, but can't abide the odor for some reason (yeah, I know, litter boxes are no treat, but I can control that). I also greatly enjoy my fish, snakes, and hedgie, as well as the frogs, lizards, and insects that have resided with me.

My last dog passed in November 2012. I believe I may be in a position to get another rescue this spring, but we'll see. You have the tendency to compare the new pooch to the old one, but each dog is different and it takes a while to figure out the things you love about the new guy. But dog, definitely. My daughter and I are both a bit allergic to cats, though I do like the ones that aren't assholes.

Love the last line of your comment! lol

Why choose when you can have both?

True dat!

Dogs most definitely for me BUT I still prefer to have lizards, birds, fish and a few frogs as pets also.

I'm amazed at the different species of animals (and reptiles) that people here have as pets ...and all at once!

@mykhael I have a Peach-faced Parrot who lives in the house with me, an aquarium with fish in it in the Living room, native geckos who live freely in and around the house catching all kinds of insects, a semi- wild goanna who roams the yard seeking out snails, etc, to eat as well fish and frogs living in my garden pond.
Is it any wonder that the local kids call my place an Animal Sanctuary?

@Triphid Certainly sounds like it is! I bet yours is the place to be for those kids!

I have both and more. I love all animals except humans.

Yeah, I get the "except humans" thing.

I always had dogs --- Jack Russell Terriers to be exact --- up until my last doggie daughter passed in March 2017 at the age of 18.

I now have the most awesome rattie roommate who helped heal my broken heart....

Yes! I saw those in your profile! 😉

Have you told it you are a vegetarian so it has no need to worry???

@JackPedigo no, I told him I'm a Vegan 🙂 and he is 100% plant-based too and he's really healthy for as old as he is! My vet says he's one of the healthiest rats she's ever met.

@SkotlandSkye Oh boy did I goof. At my first glance I saw a small pig (obviously my mind was somewhere else).
Most people hate rats but I have known a few that had them as pets. They can be really smart (especially the alpha females - I once battled on for a month before winning).

@JackPedigo Ratatoes are the best 🙂 Clever, funny, affectionate, clean, and just so darn cute. More people should consider them as roommates.

@SkotlandSkye Are they territorial and will chase other mice/rats away? I just made a post on computer generated food. Despite one's misgivings it is definitely worth seeing (it is all about non-meat food and can even grow foods from heirloom seeds).

@JackPedigo Yes....rats will kill mice if they can...and they may fight with wild rats depending on gender issues. My boy hasn't had to defend his kingdom.....generally, wild animals can smell who is already living there and stay away.

@SkotlandSkye I wonder, can a rat and cat be friends?

@JackPedigo many of the people on the Rattie groups on Facebook have rats/cats/dogs that all live together. I think you have to raise the cat from kittenhood with ratties so they see them as friends.

@SkotlandSkye Kiind of like some people (B & W).

I don't admit to having either. I'm very careful about what I post on-line and I don't want someone in two hundred years to accuse me of something considered immoral at that time, of something that was normal in my time.

Really? In two hundred years everybody you knew and everybody who knew the people you knew will be dead. That is the PERFECT time for people to criticize you. I doubt, for example, that Thomas Jefferson gives a rat's ass now about the fact that people realize he was railing one of his slaves. Let them talk!

Hmmm. Okay.

This dog!

All animals!

I have had both but prefer the dog.

I love them both but currently I have more cats.

As long as you have at least one! 🙂

I love both. I grew up with dogs and I’m inclined to have a dog as a pet over a cat. That being said, I’ve met some really cool cats. My friend had a cat named Twister and he always wanted me to pet him. All the time. I think he was gay for me.

Dog.

Or, in fact, plural - dogs.

Due to pick them up from the rescue kennel next Saturday. Names 'archy' and 'mehitabel' - those who know where the names come from will also know why they don't start with capital letters.

Ahhh. Well, I just learned something!

Cat or dog what? Tacos? As pets? Which would survive the Zombie Apocolypse? Be specific!

Lol! Well, IMHO, in as far the Apocalypse goes, the cat would remain the survivor because it's just like, ya know..."sensitive" on that kind of level. The dog, well.. not so much since it's usually so oblivious to it's surroundings. Just say'n. Not diss'n on the dog!

@mykhael Saw a series about this and it said cats, black ones in particular, will out survive humans...

@thinktwice Does make sense. Black is inconspicuous, well hidden, along with their natural evasiveness makes them that more survivable.

@mykhael I have had all sorts of cats all my life but have found my black ones to be extra smart and able to figure things out...the two I have learned how to open the doors using the handles...the little one got locked in a cabinet and figured out how to push open a drawer to make his escape...took him two days, but then I have heard of cats surviving for many days without food or water when enclosed...the cats and the dog work together to get treats locked away as well...ha ha I love them all!

@thinktwice That's funny! Gotta love the cats! They are so clever! Several years ago we had (10) feral kitties all at once through the same mother (and obviously looking at them, the same fathers). They were back-to-back litters and were each brought one by one to our house in the country –by the feral mom (which we'd never fed nor seen before!) Both litters were almost identical matches. I built-in several small "kitty doors" around the property/work shop so they'd always have a safe place with food & water. I also attached one to the house itself so the (2) that came inside could go out into the litter box that was on the deck. Over time they all became at least touchable a few, very tame. And yes, they were all spayed and neutered...and (finally) including mom! lol

@mykhael oh what a fantastic collage of cats! 🙂....my brother loves cats and has found a place near my house to take feral cats for neutering...he can only take two at a time, but he is set on getting it done before more kittens are born...I admire his dedication to this cause...

I love cats, dogs, bugies, cavies, etc. ?

1

Cat. I am not the nurturing type (some have accused me of this and they are right). Dogs are simply too much work and need too much care. BTW the only cats in my life are feral barn cats.

Two different animals altogether! Cat are my fav as well. But I still like dogs. They just require more of everything..including space if you want to be fait to them.

One big old fat black lab and two black cats...the three musketeers...always up to something...

"...big old fat black lab.. The lab must be happy!

I love them both, but if I had to choose, I would take a dog. 🙂

Congratulations! My 1st dog person!

I love many animals. Raised dogs and cats and birds. Add to that when the kids were involved: guinea pigs; hamsters; gerbils; chameleon (that will make you fear Jurassic park); hermit crabs (best way to find a missing one is wait til after midnight and listen quietly for tiny clicking crossing tile); fish; and various outdoor temporary animal rescues.
That said, I favor cats but with a girlfriend who is allergic dogs it is.

The "clicking across the tile" is funny!
