The Seven Republicans who voted against the bill to retroactively pay govt workers when the shut down is resolved.

I'm a bit torn here. I suspect that, despite being a progressive, my thought are not going to be popular here. It seems like there should be real consequences to this pissing match that has been going on. The public is being held hostage by having services withheld because some assholes want throw a temper tantrum. If I worked for some company and the board of directors could not agree and decided to temporarily close the business, I probably wouldn't expect backpay. I would, however, consider looking for employment somewhere with more stability and fewer dipshits. I'm not saying that Federal employees need to find other work. I do think our system is currently fucked and that we should all expect more from our lawmakers. This just seems like another of many accepted tactics that is steering us into the abyss. If we are going play the game, I think we should go all in. Let's shut it all down for while. The whole thing. Maybe that will bring real change. I really do feel for the 800,00 families that have been affected by this bullshit, but I think we all need to look at the bigger picture. I accept your thoughts and criticism.
People and thier families should never be used as pawns. It’s not much of a pissing match. Trumpski changed his mind after the house and senate passed bills that he promised to sign before the shutdown. He knows he’s in a corner and is trying to cause chaos. It’s easy for those of us that are not one of those families to pass quick judgment. These people have years of tenure, seniority and government benefits. It’s not easy to walk into another job.
@Green_eyes, I think Trump is a major peice of shit. I think his presidency is a fucking dumpster fire. I don't think that it's fair that families should suffer. I do believe that the shutdown is just one symptom of a corrupt and broken system that needs changed.
The gap between the haves, and have nots keeps being Strikingly large. The republigarchs only have one agenda it seems, and that is screw nearly everyone in almost any fashion they can think of.
Sure, they didn't work, but the rent or mortgage still had to be paid, and they still had to put food on the table. Shame on those politicians.
Good idea. Shrink the government. Abolish the irs and the fed.
@BryanLV Yes...we don't need an Army, police or fire protection. No need to tax the wealthy either. Right?
It’s a typical republican response to think about thier bank account before the health and welfare of greater society. Although I’m like most and not horribly fond of the IRS, it is what it is. The shut down affects pilots flying thousands of people every day. The FDA has ceased routine domestic food inspections( that’s kinda important). Listeria, salmonella are not our friends. Our national parks are being defaced. These are but a few examples of the 70 agencies effected by the orange menace.
His 5 billion is a drop in the bucket for the 35-70 billion it would take to complete this project.
@Green_eyes I am not a republicrat! Thats a typical response from you, though. The fda does not work the way you pretend. Plenty of people have eaten tainted food, gotten sick and even died even with these useless behemoth bureacracies in place. The fda in particular really just blocks competition within the market and affixes large corporations at the top so the people at the top can funnel lobbiest money into thei pockets.
The two party system of govt does not work how you make believe it does. It does the same thing when the left and right are controlling it.
@BryanLV whoever thinks the government does the same thing under the left and the right has NO powers of observation.
g
@BryanLV No you are not a Republican, you are an idiot. ?
@genessa 21 trillion dollars in debt, growing govt, endless regulations, politician pay going up, endless wars, the only difference between obummer and frump are rhetoric and a wall...
What exactly are the differences again? Seriously, why make a statement like that and not provide at least one example? Are you trying to convince me, or yourself?
@BryanLV oh okay, i see you have a bit of ad hominem going. you don't know me at ALL and yet you wonder aloud if i am trying to convince you or myself. that is not a good way to disguise your ignorance. it's a good way to get blocked, not because we disagree, or even because you're so extremely ignorant, but simply because i don't tolerate that shit. bye.
g
@BryanLV I take that back. You are a complete idiot. A great accomplishment. The top of your class.
Judged by their results, absolutely no difference at all. All these responses and noone has made an intelligible argument as to how republicrats or demopublicans are any different than one another.
Two wings attached to the same duck!
@BryanLV Only really stupid people talk about how smart they are. Smart people don't have to talk about how smart they are. It just shows. When you come up with a good replacement for "government" l might listen to your ideas. So far you just sound like an idiot.
@BryanLV You need to go back and read your own shit. You did indicate how smart you are without a shred of evidence to support such a statement. I don't have emojis on my computer. If you are disappointed, l can switch to my phone. It is loaded with emojis.
@BryanLV typical response from me? You don’t know me.. lol. Clearly you not only believe in conspiracy theories but are completely uneducated. I’d prefer a three party system but until America evolves and abolished the archaic electoral college it’ll be near impossible.
@Green_eyes So let me get this straight. I don't know you, but you can label me a republican without knowing me? You can also make assumptions about what I believe?
Then your reponse is to insult my intelligence when I clearly advanced the discussion? Can you at least try to not be a complete hypocrite here?
I an really not interested in devolving every discussion that does not fit into peoples boxed in minds into ad hominem attacks against my person.
Just trying to help. Thanks!
@BryanLV I never implied you are smart in any way, because it is obvious you are not.Your analogy to cancer just proves my point. It wasn't an insult. It was an observation, like pointing out some one is tall or skinny. Rand Paul is another idiot.
@BryanLV I am too old to put up with stupid anymore. As Ron White said, "You can't fix stupid." I ask you to give me a replacement for "government" and you have nothing.
@BryanLV Do you have any idea of how government services were paid for BEFORE income taxes? Before there were Tax paid fire services, there were only unpaid volunteers who would gather ad hoc to fight the fire. Also, there were VERY FEW government services of any kind...people were on their own...would you like to go back to that?
@icolan Also the loss of revenue from alcohol left the government without a dependable source. Thusly a federal income tax had several reasons for imposition. Prohibition haunts us to this day. Perhaps the states rights movement in cannabis reform, will provide as it does in Colorado, a means to improve or educational system, that we may compete in the world. & do something about our exploding debt which will affect the global economy.
The gop always representing the working class......
I am on the left side of politics, but I do understand Roy's point. If you pass a bill to retroactively pay government workers now AND for all future shutdowns that will reduce the incentive for avoiding shutdowns in the future. Shutdowns don't just affect the government workers, they affect everyone who depends on those services, and our elective representatives should never allow shutdowns to happen in first place.
@icolan There is a paragraph in the article that clearly states back pay would be guaranteed for future shutdowns. Are you saying that is not true?
The Senate had already passed a bill before the shutdown to address this but because of the new house it had to be redone. Peoples livelihoods should never be a pawn in negotiations. The permanence will take this out of the equation.
