Regarding the "snowpocalypse:" so far, here in middle rural Illinois, we are still just getting lots and lots of rain, which is even melting some of the snow on the ground. But that wind is really roaring across the plain. If the temperature drops as the forecasters predict, everything will soon be coated in a sheet of ice.
Here in Iowa we did get several inches of snow and it got really cold, tho not below normal for this date. Like usual, the storm was not as bad as predicted and lots of events for Fri. eve and today were called off. I really hate winter, but still, so far, we have had a very mild winter as far as snow and temps.
The winter in North Colorado has been a disaster. We depend on snow for our moisture to fill the lakes and reservoirs. So far, this winter season, we have had ZERO snow. This follows a Spring, Summer and Fall of no rain whatsoever. It is an epic non event. Water is precious. We have virutally none at this time.
So sick of the weatherpeople's "we're all gonna die" crap......
I've been to Illinois, only in the summer, visiting friends in Rockford, aroudn the tiem of the "on The Water Front" festival. I was surprised at how much rain Illinois gets even in summer.
That's what makes all the corn grow.
@BD66 Yeah, I do remember corn fields in virtually every open field. I was told it was being grown to feed cows.
Always thought it strange that they feed cows corn. It isn't their natural diet. They have to wean cows off grass and onto corn/grain feed, or else eatign grain will kill them. I tend to imagine cows that are about as unhealthy as a poerson living off of only junk foods as beign the main source of beef in the U.S. I've tasted grass fed beef adn beef from the grocery store side by side an dthe grass fed beef tastes far better.
I think the track shifted north a bit. We in southern Wisconsin were only predicted to get a dusting and we have seven or eight inches of new snow. It wasn't supposed to snow at all in Minneapolis and I hear it did snow up there. I can handle snow. For all of you who are probably going to get bad icing, please be careful. You can generally do ok driving in snow if you are careful and know the tricks. Nobody can drive well on ice.
