I just was wondering why those people who criticize others so often on this site do not post any ideas for debate or to extend knowledge to others?

Stop trying to incite doubt & envy! Just a lame post!

i have not noticed this as a trend. i myself both comment on others' posts (positively AND negatively as seems appropriate) and make my own posts. quite frankly, i think it is more useful to comment on others' posts and not sit solely in one's own head. i only post, myself, when i have something to say that i see hasn't yet been said.

Some people are better at seeing flaws in an approach. Others are gifted in developing alternatives. No need for everyone to try to be everything.

I think it is because of time...there are a lot of intelligent people here who usually already post things I see and think about...they work hard to post credible and insightful articles and news links that spark conversation...I am still working full time and don't have time to cull the internet but I still like to participate by commenting on their hard work...

It is easy to criticize however one should also be able to offer something of value for debate on this site. One does not need to agree or disagree with everything but it is interesting to see other people views and how they got there.

Does it count as a criticism to note that you're breaching etiquette by replying to your own post in order to jack up your points?

He is at level 8 and I don't think he really cares about points at that level..I know I don't...I look at it as just the ball rolling...I like his posts...

@maturin1919 Internet etiquette in general. It's poor form to self-reply in order to boost your "trending" status.

@thinktwice Hadn't noticed that... good point. I don't care about points myself, but I think it's poor form.

@thinktwice @Paul4747 Yep. In this case, a habit of making first comment appears (to me) to be completely consistent with the profile of a person who is about posting thought-provoking topics, frequently in the form of a question, and fairly and sensibly starting the conversation by offering his oen views. That one receives double points for first comment seems a simple--and, to me, forgivable--coincidence. I see no other behavior from this user to suggest shameless point-grubbing. Quite the opposite, actually.

@Paul4747 I reply a lot to my own posts because I usually forget to add some things? Does it count if you asSUme why you know someone is doing something?

@stinkeye_a Then post your own opinion in the question post. That's my opinion.

But it's a minor criticism.

@maturin1919 They're unwritten.

@Paul4747 no

@AmmaRE007 When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of you, and Umption.

@stinkeye_a I agree...I looks at patterns of behavior as well...and it seems ridiculous to me that a thoughtful question and post would be overly criticized as points grubbing when the actual subject at hand is a more worthy topic of discussion... lol...

@thinktwice Thank you.

@AmmaRE007 one CAN edit one's own post... not unlimitedly, but within time limits set by one's levels. one doesn't have to respond immediately to one's own posts by way of editing.
