I'm stuck at the auto shop with my car. My rear brakes locked up, causing my car to almost catch fire!!!
A good samaritan frantically pulled me over this morning to tell me there were sparks coming from underneath my car! Had to pop open my trunk to grab my emergency roadside kit: fire extinguisher and warning triangles!
I wonder how much this is gonna cost me?? Hopefully, not too much damage to the car to warrant a huge bill!
Were it that you had a car technician to date--
Ouch. Not cool. No pun intended.
Better now?
That's weird I'd be curious to know what caused that. I wonder if it was an issue with the emergency brake?
I was thinking the same - or a bent axle, happened to me wheeling - locked one wheel doing 60MPh scary but no damage. Loosened the caliper and drove home slowly.
Oh man. Car problems really suck. I am retired and I really would like to replace my 15 year old rusted car. The CD and radio don't ever work properly, now what's a drive without music and windows that roll down? Never enough money to go around. ?
Good karma on to you.
Depending on the car... If they are drum brakes they are easy to fix. Disc brakes, depends what is wrong. If the disc is warped could be an axle issue if on a jeep or other solid axle car. Then yes expensive.
@AlexRam I'm just hoping it's nothing too expensive! Shouldn't be more than $200!?
@SleeplessInTexas I do a lot of repairs myself - saves me $$$, most things are easy like brakes tires suspension etc.
@AlexRam I could probably fix my brakes myself if I didn't have a back injury and if the brakes weren't under warranty! Just had them put on in June!
@SleeplessInTexas oh wow sorry to hear. Hope all goes well. A woman with a wrench ! Super cool
@AlexRam My father and brothers were good influences. My older brother went to college to become a licensed mechanic. My father always encouraged us to go to college and graduate in a trade field before perusing anything else. That way we'll always have something to fall back on or for extra income.
@SleeplessInTexas "Shouldn't be more than $200!" - hahahahahaha....oh wait, you were serious?!?!?! Try adding a 1 to the front of that, or maybe a zero on the end.
@jondspen I was able to get as far under my car after it cooled off and the damage looks minimal. No more than $200 for anything else, but it's under warranty.
@SleeplessInTexas Wow...then you got off extremely lucky. Labor is typically $65-90/hr around here, so must be some pretty minor fixes. Glad it's under warranty.
@SleeplessInTexas That is great - no luck with my 12yo daughter. my son is good with tools, she has no interest
