Anybody else reject Valentine's Day? total bullshit
I usually host the Everything Inappropriate Alternative Valentine's Day party. We have a finish the limerick contest, contest for most suggestive thing found in nature (like a tree that looks phallic), most inappropriate food contest, and unnecessary censorship (where you find an innocent pic and put a black box over part of it so it looks bad). Then we play Cards Against Humanity. Everyone brings booze and I order prizes from Ship a Bag of Dicks. So much fun!
I wanna come to your house
Kathie loves chocolate covered cherries, vd xmas, new years, thanksgiving, birthday, MLK day, ect. Pretty un-forgiving if I pass up any excuse. Looking forward to election day being made a federal holiday.....but really haven't seen any reason to maintain a religious context....fairly sure they just stole the idea themselves.
Take a lesson from the xians. Repurpose the day to something else. We host our annual wife swap party. WE all look forward to V-Day.
Have fun with it or not.. it’s up to you. I do a little something for my sons, they’re my biggest sweethearts.
I always call it by it's abbreviated title with a sarcastic flavor. . . Happy VD.
VD is not an event I look forward to. Primarily because the local NPR station uses the weeks before VD to promote their "Sweets for you sweet." chocolate truffle fund raising drive where, starting a few days ago, NPR will hammer their (you have a sweetheart so you must give us money) assertion. They may have reduced the sweets for you sweet this year but I will not fire up the radio until a week after VD.
I call it VD as well lol
I like to ask people the day after "how did your vd go?"
It's a Hallmark holiday. Made up to make someone lots of money.
It is the best day of the year to be a single male without a girlfriend, or be in a relationship where your partner believes as you, that this is a stupid, stupid day. A day set up for men to get it wrong more than we get it right. We already have birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas, for those who do Christmas, to get it wrong. We don't need the pressure.
It certainly ups the pressure in a non-organic way! Sadly (perhaps), it feels like any holiday where certain things are "expected" ups the pressure.
I pretty much reject ALL special days set aside for celebrating..
I reject them also. I see very little to celebrate. Think of the smart 3 year old who gives a funny look to those who claim it is his birthday. He knows inside that they have told him that before. He keeps quiet though because he likes the cake.
@MissKathleen That does not require special days to do that, for me. Everyday can be a celebration. I do acknowledge my family's b'days.
What's Valentine's Day?
*Edit: If you didn't get the joke I was trying to make, I've rejected Valentine's Day so vehemently that I have wiped it away from memory.
From Wikipedia: The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre is the name given to the 1929 Valentine's Day murder of seven members and associates of Chicago's North Side Gang. The men were gathered at a Lincoln Park garage on the morning of Valentine's Day, where they were made to line up against a wall and shot by four unknown assailants.
We celebrate it with chocolates and flowers!
