I don't want to spark an outrage but what are your thoughts about Colin Kaepernick and the massive support with him. Do you approve of that or do you stand against it?
I am perfectly fine with what he, and the other players did. They were all engaging in peaceful protest, as is their right under the Constitution. They were protesting a legitimate issue.
I think it sucks that Kaepernick was blackballed for it.
I detest the anthem. I don't believe anyone should have to acknowledge it,
or the pledge. Sit down, take a knee. Whichever.
Fuck "patriotism". It's bullshit.
It's just another excuse for some people to claim they're better than others.
Fuck them, too.
"Fuck "patriotism". It's bullshit." I agree...look what it did for Germany in the 1930's.
In high school I stood for the pledge but didn’t recite it because it had god in it. Now I wish I wouldn’t have stood. But I never would have rocked the boat at that age
@Marcie1974 Some students now do not stand. I had a student a few years ago that would recite everything except "under god". I remember a girl next to him didn't want him to say he was an atheist (she would grumble his name, and mumble something about being quiet about it, lol).
nonviolent protest of a terrible thing is not only fine, it's necessary. he's not hurting anyone; he's not disrespecting the (piece of cloth after all, known as) the flag (whereas what he is protesting is real live people being harassed and even killed for no reason). he's not hurting the racist national anthem (check out the fourth verse), which shouldn't even be SUNG at a damned football game; the pentagon asked the nfl to add that to promote enlistment, i forget during which war (the first ww maybe). football isn't a patriotic event; it's a game. a GAME.
g
I totally support what he started. I am disgusted by the fat cat millionaires who don't like it. Perhaps it hasn't yet been explained to them in one syllable words. It has nothing to do with the flag or the national anthem. It's a high profile way to bring attention to the fact that all lives do NOT matter in the US. That's never been the case, and it still isn't.
Not a sports fan, but I admire the courage it took for him to take a stand, by taking a knee. A respectful way to create awareness.
I can't respect anyone who would deny American citizens this kind of public awareness. I dislike the negative spin calling it a protest - it is what America is all about - I think it's a positive step toward heightening humanity in our country.
I kneel with Mr. Kaepernick. His cause is just, and I agree with it, and with his method of protest. I even wear my Nike shoes with pride.
O say can you pee
Standing up like a man?
Or like the other sex
Must you sit down on the can?
I don't care you pee.
Please just stand up with glee!
Unless you have a conscience,
Then get down on one knee.
O when you hear the anthem
You don't really need to pee your pants
When you see that we
Take a single-knee stance.
Absolutely approve of him. He tried to quietly not support the anthem since he didn’t think this country was supporting non-whites. White “patriots” got butt hurt and turned it into something it’s not
I've never been much of a fan of NIKE shoes. Way over priced, I preffer Sketchers.
But aside from that, yes I do support Colin Kaepernick, and his views.
I respect Colin Kaepernick for his courage. He's a true American Patriot!
I never put my hand over my heart when the National Anthem is played nor when I've had to sing the National Anthem to a crowd of government diligates and military veterans and personnel.
I'll stand, but with my hands to my side.
Sheesh. I did not even know he identified as black until the ruckus, black listing (pun intended), & that major 'fro. Since when is kneeling disrespectful. Kneeling shows respect. It is done all the time as a sign of respect. As part owner of the Packers & keep demanding that they should hire him. They had better listen to me soon as Rogers is aging. & he isn't wine.
Civil disobedience—or peaceful protest—is not only our right, when injustice is rampant, it’s our responsibility.
Paraphrasing Howard Zinn.
Absolutely. I subscribe to Zinns mindset. Thanks for sharing that.
I’ve always found it funny when people say they stand with Kaepernick. I support and believe in what he is doing.
Freedom of speech, peaceful protest, social justice... I'm all for that!
