I'm shedding the unwanted that exists in forgotten, needlessly stored boxes occupying my life.
I found my certificate of completion of driver training to get my learner permit.
I also found a certificate that my dad had a whopping life insurance policy on me of $500 at 24 cent a week.
I feel so valued.
I need to do the same, but it never seems to reach the top of my priorities.
Repeated on the Antiques road show: "I was on my way to the dumpster and i decided to keep the frame."
Billions in historical value now exist in land-piles because of the profound ignorance and stupidity of children and grandchildren trashing what old people had hoped they were preserving for all of humanity.
Oh....there is no danger of that in this situation.
Those strange pieces of paper tell a tale, but at some point we need to move on, and lose the excess. I am facing that, as I have many boxes still unpacked from my move a year ago. SO tough to let some special things go. But why do we keep some of this stuff?!?
I went through everything carefully but relentlessly.
Be cautious. Again, i recently learned , i should have not have to tossed those 1980's magazines.
And way too many other things.
The rule, "Not used in a year, give it away," is NOT a rule for a reasonable human.
My mother was a hoarder.
Not nearly as bad as the TV show, but too much stuff makes me itch.
I need to do a massive shed every so often.
I was off work for the past 6 months. One of my goals for my time off was to get rid of the excess and obsolete. I had a few boxes not opened post divorce. One box had about 60 stitchery kits, some never opened. I don't think if I lived to 110 that I could finish them all. I have sold several on eBay and will be selling more. I also went through closets, cabinets, and pantry. I don't think I ever throw anything away. I am more organized now, and have a bit less of a shortfall with limited income for so long.
I think I may give my in progress craft projects to my daughter to just dig that eternal guilt claw in deep. lol
@BufftonBeotch I did let my girls have an opportunity to look through what I had. My oldest and second have no interest. My youngest came over and grabbed a couple.
My dad had a great method for that when you move. Pack up all your stuff into boxes and label each box with it's contents. Now group up all the boxes labeled Misc / Miscellaneous and without opening any of them throw them all out. It is highly unlikely you will ever miss one thing thing from those boxes.
Nope. The only thing I really need is my cat.
And she'd probably ditch me in a heartbeat.
Back in the day $500 was enough for a nice funeral......and life expectancy for kids was low.
Has it been cashed? Check, it could still be valuable!
I found out my grandfather had taken out life insurance policies on all
three of his grandchildren. When they were cashed in, we each received $500.
My sister and our cousin both kept their money. I couldn't tell you what they
may have spent it on. Wasn't my business, and I never asked.
I don't talk to my cousin much, or my sister. at all.
They aren't the nicest people I've ever met.
I bought a plane ticket with mine, and flew to visit him.
It was last time I saw him alive.
He died about a year later.
Bittersweet memories, but they are your's,no one elses.
Oh and now a Christmas card signed by James and Rosalyn Carter.
Actually Rosalyn's name is first.
I must have been an especially annoying activist that year.
