How many muslims do you know, or have known, personally? Like every other American who has swallowed the rightist crap that I’ve spoken to, I’d be surprised if the answer was greater than zero. Your comparison of western and most muslim countries’ view of religious tolerance is also invalid. We have something that most of those countries lack; democracy, along with its associated freedoms. And from what I see and read, and have experienced, most of those muslims would much rather have democracy than what they do have.

@tkcoy It was a shameful cover up by the local council, that has oversight of these matters. When it was uncovered, heads rolled, and a major police investigation took place.

The council involved initially made a major fuck-up, quite possibly for the reasons you state. Once they realised the extent of the problem, they chose to cover it up to protect themselves, rather than sort it out and call the police in. They knew they were in deep shit, and chose self protection.

The perpetrators got long jail sentences.
