Retirement --- How do you feel about it? Whether you are retired or just nearing it, what are your thoughts on it?
I'm recently retired and not loving it yet. First, I've been forced into retiring because I wanted to move closer to my daughter and her family and can't find a job in my field. I am unwilling to commute an hour one way to work in the city.
So retirement is a necessity. I'm still looking for work because I feel I need something to do. Maybe that diminishes as time goes by, I don't know.
Any tips from the already retired would be welcome.
I LOVE being retired!! My company had a good defined benefit pension plan (thanks to our Union!) and my Social Security was good as well, so I am financially comfortable (have not had to touch IRAs or stock portfolio yet). It has been almost four years and there is not one day I miss work. I was there for 42 years, that was enough!
I love being retired! At first I took on a bunch of volunteer gigs but after a while it started to feel like work. So I gradually scaled back and now have a few things I do that are satisfying but I spend more time just relaxing: walking the dog, various study projects, screwing around on this website and a few others. Only advice is to find some friends to hang out with, develop some hobbies, keep your mind stimulated, and try to have a bit of fun. Afternoon naps are great!
I was forced to take early retirement, after having been denied SSDI five times. And I'm not especially happy about it!
Things will expand (RAPIDLY!) to fill the space provided. Stop allowing yourself to feel "forced" (you could move to Budapest, you know) and you will feel better overall.
