Something to consider! If a person sleeps the recommended number of sleep-hours for the day, it is eight, or a third of the day. Doing this, when a person reaches 60, they have slept for 20 years.

and well worth it to be healthy in those older years...I love to sleep...and do it a lot! ha

Which is why I love my bed.

Better than our cat. He sleeps about two hours for every awake moment in his life. If he makes it to 12 he'll have slept 8 years of them.

Yes, "quality", not "quantity". ---- and I hope it gave you a laugh too- even with your, and my, "yikes!"

Sleeping is fun but waking up is better 😊

Yep.

My ex needed very little sleep, like maybe 3-4 hours, tops. I felt very resentful as I realized he got Years more awake/living time than me!

He is your "ex". Was he a quality-like person with his lack of sleep?

@Diogenes He played one, mostly. But not really......Much better off without him!

@AnneWimsey I blame myself for my ONE mistake. I could never get another one like that--- but I still wasn't going to bet on/with the one in a 1,000,000 odds.

A person that likes to argue, about anything, will find someone to argue with. I have better things to do with my time.

This is correct.

Scientist and sleep expert, Matthew Walker, explains how not sleeping increases the chances of getting many other things that will kill you prematurely.

Sweet dreams!

Yes, I wasn't advising not to sleep eight hours; my point was the amazing amount of time- the 20 years.

The last part of that video, hit the mark, to me,'stupid people making stupid choices'. Although not mentioned in the video, the 'party-all-night-crowd'---- who, yes, end up getting cancer and grossly fat from their choices.

@Diogenes

Apologies, and thank you for the post. I didn't mean to suggest that you were making the point that sleep wasn't a good idea.

Even though it would seem obvious that sleeping 8 hours a night would add up to 20 years, it's still shocking somehow. This is even with the advisement that for better health and quality of life, it's a necessity. I'd never thought of it in terms of the number of years one is actually asleep - yikes!

The video was to show how it is worth the trade off. Fewer waking hours may make for more time to live and enjoy, according to some, but we know that's not the case for longevity.

@Athena Sorry, I didn't enter my reply to you in the right place; I replied to myself--- must be my lack of sleep. LOL

@Diogene
I can relate!
