My mother wasn't much of a parent, but she did say a few things that stuck with me.

One of them was when I asked her why she didn't go to PTA meetings like the other mothers. She told me the women who went to those things were a bunch of hateful bitches who liked to talk about other women behind their backs.
Then she said the thing that has stayed with me, probably more than anything else she ever told me.
