As a Christian, I can remember mocking Islam and thinking how stupid the religion was. How could muslims worship someone who was so bloody and to have such stupid laws. The whole Mohammed rode off on a Horse to heaven was utter nonsense. The rules about women and the violence in the religion were atrocious.
Then i remember one day i guess i had an epiphany. A moment of clarity. My bible had similar stuff in it. A talking donkey, Fitting all the animals in the world into an ark for months. Killing all the men, women and children of a certain race that did not worship same god. Saying stuff like if you have a disobedient son then take him and kill him. I've also seen church people say stuff like if you cut your hair or a woman wears short pants she's going to hell.
Even though i don't think christianity is as violent as Islam. There are many examples of absurdities in both. When looking at things from a reasonable persons viewpoint they both are outdated. The first christians and muslims were the lower classes and ignorant. Only thru manipulation, threats and force did these religions grow to the point to where they are now
I have red the Bible cover to cover and also the Quran, and I can tell you that the Bible is ten times more violent then the Quran. It is only fanatics that distort what is written in both books and use it for their own power. By the way both Muslims and Christians believe in the same God as do Jews and other religions. All nonsense to me it is.
I find it funny, and odd that a good amount of people don't know that fact about all being the same god.
@David_Cooper The problems with the fanatics is that they take only "bits" that suit their agenda and disregard the rest.
stop thinking...that is why most religions need pastors, priests, etc. to help you "understand"...if you think, you won't agree with what they want, so stop it...
“Blessed is the man who does not question, for critical thinking is frowned upon in the forest of fairytales.” Sandman 1:1
There are many forms of violence... Check out this one from just a couple decades ago...
Canadian Indian residential school system
In Canada, the Indian residential school system[nb 1] was a network of boarding schools for Indigenous peoples.[nb 2] The network was funded by the Canadian government's Department of Indian Affairs and administered by Christian churches. The school system was created for the purpose of removing Indigenous children from the influence of their own culture and assimilating them into the dominant Canadian culture. Over the course of the system's more than hundred-year existence, about 30 per cent of Indigenous children (around 150,000) were placed in residential schools nationally.[3][4]:2–3 The number of school-related deaths remains unknown due to an incomplete historical record, though estimates range from 3,200 upwards of 6,000.[5][6]
The sadness inflected was by genocidal minds!
That used religion to uphold their horrific plans of inclusion!
Europeans have sacked the world destroying cultures which they never tried to live in peace with!
Didn't Muhammad "rise" to heaven in a golden chariot or some such? That's the silliest thing I've heard since zombie Jesus came back three days later. How do people come up with this stuff. They certainly had fertile imaginations in the Bronze Age.
After being raised from the dead after three days, Jesus must have smelt horrible!
@Sandman07 Bart Urhmann, one of the most respected secular Christologists of our time, in his thorough study of Roman crucifiction practices, noted that those crucified were left to rot on the cross for days, and only then dragged to pits or fires to be burnt. The idea of being taken down and respectfully buried in a tomb is laughable. The Romans would never have allowed it. Even if there were a real person in this story, the tomb story is rubbish. So, if he came back, he would have been a rotting zombie corpse, or a burnt cinder. So silly of Christians to believe otherwise.
@Sandman07
Just like the Pillsbury Doughman!
Well christianity used to be as violent centuries ago. Heck America is a product of such violence, people just trying to get away. Science and reason helped us get out of that. But the same anti-knowledge anti-science thinking that took over islam centuries ago is now the main survival tool of Christianity today...and that's incredibly dangerous for us nonbelievers. It used to be Christianity looked at science as a supportive ally until the rift that occured over the last century.
In Islam, early in its history, the intellectuals going against scripture either moved out or were harrassed or murdered. In christianity today we see a similar driving out, or worse a type cognitive dissonance we see in scientists who are christian, and the only protection we nonbelievers have is a strong protective government and strong free secular education. But both are now under direct attack.
We need to realize that all religion is inherently violent due to it sectarian, tribal, and non-inclusive nature; it has nothing to do with the content of the religion's texts. We just saw Buddhists in Myanmar essentially attempt genocide on the muslim Rohinga people. We see Hindus violently attack muslim villages in India. There is not a single line in their text that calls for any such directed violence.
The minor logical absurdities don't matter. It's group dynamics. It's football riots in the UK. Its gang violence in LA and Chicago. It's Democrat vs Republican, right vs left, communist vs capitalist, north vs south, US vs ...eveyone else. It's Apple vs PC.
That's what all religions are...gangs. A controlled selfsustaining mob of zombies ready to hurt and destroy any one not like themselves.
That mentality needs to be removed. The US somehow got the closest to itb but its under attack. And we really need to figure out a good way protect it.
christianity in its bibles (jews have no old or new testament; there is just the hebrew bible) and islam in its quran are violent, maybe not equally, but at any rate violent in stories, not violent in actual action. in the modern day, modern muslims do not perform those bloody laws any more than modern day jews and christians stone people to death for, say, adultery. HOWEVER, islamists (who do NOT follow quran and even perform terroristic acts on muslim holidays) and radical christians (who do not follow the christian bibles, nor understand them as far as i can tell) are plenty violent, and in the united states, christians (should we call them christianists?) are way more violent than islamists. i refuse to judge practitioners or believers in religions by their "holy" texts, since they are followed to such wildly varying degrees even by the devout. i judge them by their actions.

Both religions are the two most vile things ever shat out of a human being’s disgusting imagination. Fuck Christianity. And fuck Islam too.
I should have stated was a Christian now I think it’s bs
I should have stated in 2019. I’ve become well aware of past violence of Christianity
Christianity isn't as violent as Islam in 2019. It used to be.
That’s what I meant
"Xstianity is not as violent as Islam," who are you trying to kid?
Research the numbers of native peoples persecuted and MURDERED by Xstians over the last 1,000+ years, the numbers of Atheists MURDERED by Xstians in the same time periods, the numbers of Muslims slaughtered by the Xstians during the Crusades, etc, etc.
REAL history shows clearly that Christianity has been, beyond a shadow of a doubt the MOST violent religious belief in recent history bar none.
The Quran is just a reboot of the bible is why they are so alike....
Why is it that so many religions are obsessed with violence? Even after death these biblical sadists dream of an eternity of torture.
My favorite violent part of the bible is when Moses went up on Mount Sinai to get the 10 commandments. One of them happen to be Thou shalt not kill. As soon as Moses got down from the mountain and saw some being disobedient he ordered 3000 of them killed.
@abyers1970 I guess Moses couldn't read. Or maybe he had a form of dyslexia and left out the word "not".
Religion looks stupid to anyone with an ounce of sense, all religions. Why can't we just be good to each other and enjoy our time here?
Religion always looks stupid to anyone who isn't practicing the same religion they do.
I've always viewed Christianity and Islam as brothers with shitty parents. Christianity would be the firstborn, the older brother. When his younger brother was born and he was neglected, he became a bad child and tormented his younger brother. This continued as they got older, basically molding the younger brother into the image of the older. Then the big brother joined the marines as soon as he was able to and received discipline, getting him back into line for the most part. The younger brother has yet to reach an age where he can receive proper discipline and mature.. and is continuing to be sadistic. That is where Islam is now. The older brother learned how to channel his sadistic behavior in a way that is socially acceptable (the marines).. and that is where Christianity is now.
Islam doesn't tolerate other religions. That is the most toxic mind poison on this planet. However there are moderate muslims that don't take the holy text literally. That is reform on old inhuman ways and in my opinion the only way to coexist in peace. Just my 2 cents.
In a way, praying to god for good things must be quite seductive. After all if he is all powerful and you’ve been a good Christian perhaps some good things can be sent your way.
But in reality all Christian missionaries are venal and corrupt people who take advantage of the innocence and vulnerability of indigenous populations. Belief doesn’t help them, it just gives them more things to worry about.
If indigenous tribes had had guns, there wouldn’t have been slavery to begin with...
I should've stated that i'm a former Christian. I can tell you that praying to god was at times good but mostly frustrating. If you get what you want then God gave it to you. But if you didn't then the following
I always wondered why some evil person got all the good things and a good person would get screwed over and the church would have you believe it was for making you a better christian and the other person would get theirs in the end.
You're , "preaching to the choir ." as the saying goes . We know that. We agree with you , That's why we're here .
well... i agree that all "holy" books are ridiculous. i don't agree with the comparison of relative violence, nor with the implication that violence in the books is the same as violence performed by ordinary practitioners of the religions in question. i know some very nice muslims who would no more perform a violent act than would a baby goat in pajamas, and i know some very nice christians who behave quite normally as well. on the other hand, i know a couple of evangelicals and they're NUTS.
