It appears that we have No Black Members. My search proved futile. There must be Black Atheists somewhere. If not, why not?
I don’t think that is an accurate statement as I’ve seen some....although I will concede that the White Anglo Saxon types seem to be in the majority. Can’t really say why though.
I have arrived! lol
Finally!!! Thanks for your response Jinx. I assume you are an Atheist If so, how did it come about for you.
@NoPlanetB It is too much all at once, I know... lol
@alon I am an Atheist, but I can't really answer how it came about... I was raised in a highly devout Christian household, in a Christian neighborhood, with Christian family and friends. Somehow religion never quite made sense to me. I basically lived isolated and in the closet my entire life. It really wasn't until the rise of social media that I found others and understood my identity.
There used to be many blacks here. I suppose they found a better place to find romantic matches.
excuses, excuses----where are they now?
@alon You'll have to ask them. I last noticed black people here when I was in Thailand, but after that I was thrown into Thai immigration prison for having fourth stage cancer and not being able to travel when I lost my work permit (for having cancer) and after a month escaped to Texas with the help of my sister, then I was in the hospital, and since then, trying to recover, with the help of strong THC cannabis oil. These days, my entertainment is hiking and rock climbing in the deserts near Albuquerque.
I have seen/chatted with a few black folks here. Not sure how you would “search” for them.
Well if we are going to make sweeping statements ( I mean do people have to announce their blackness? Because how would you even know? I wouldn't) anyway I'll make generalisations for which there has been supporting research.
The poorest, most uneducated countries tend to be the most religious. Perhaps amid all the bleakness of their lives they desperately need something to hope for, something that will let them endure this life for the hope of a better life after death.
So if follows that the poorest, most disadvantaged demographic, would again be the most religious.
Other studies indicate that the greater the education, the more likely one is to be atheist. I should source these studies and if you want me too I will. But if you dispute them you really should do your own research.
What the hell does what you wrote have to do with my question?
@alon She is saying that black communities tend to be economically disadvantaged. therefore less likely to be educated, therefore less likely to be non religious therefore less likely to be on website dedicated to non religion.
End translation.
Although this is an international site, most of the users are American. Black Americans amount to less than 14% of the population.
Not everyone uses a pic of their own face and there is no race option for search so I don't know how you can come to that conclusion.
Black men have messaged me on Agnostic.com.
there is a black athiest Muslim woman who runs an organization that helps Muslim women who wish to leave their religion and or husbands or family since it is considered blasphemy and death is the penalty. I went to a meeting in Worcester, Ma in order to meet and speak with this very brave young woman. For obvious reasons, I won't give her name or post the picture.
That's a very nice story but what has it got to do with my question?
