It Turns Out Christians Have More Abortions Than Any Other Religious Group In America [mtv.com] via @MTVNews
Considering the fact that Christians are the biggest group of religious US citizens this is nothing extraordinary.
Believe it or not, there's such a thing as "liberal" Christians who don't subscribe to everything the far-right believes. Including abortion, hell, literal bible, etc. They may be essentially wrong about being christian AT ALL, but they're not AS looney tunes as the truly crazy ones.
Another case of "don't do as I do, do as I say."
Surprise, Surprise. "Christians" make up about 70% of the U.S. population (according to surveys that ask which religion the respondent identifies with most). So I would expect that about 70% of all abortions would be carried out by "Christians" in the US, give or take a small margin. Hardly earth shattering information, at least not to any semi-informed thinking person.
While no one was lookin' on the old plantation
He took her all the way down the long valley road
They sent her away not too much later
And left him walking down the old valley road
Walk on, walk on alone
Walk on, walk on, walk on alone
Out in the hall they were talking in a whisper
Everybody noticed she was gone awhile
Somebody said she's gone to her sister's
But everybody knew what they were talking about
While no one was lookin' on the old plantation
He showed her what they do down the long valley road
She came back around like nothing really happened
And left him standing on the old valley road.
I know fire and brimstone pastors and followers who are against abortion yet had them themselves.
I hate the selfishness and hypocrisy. As long as they had the option, that’s what matters. Now what are they going to do???
Yep, cognitive dissonance doesn't seem to be a thing for most "Christians" I have met or heard about.
But, not for much longer if their "leaders" get their way! Karma? Irony? Or just plain STUPIDITY?
Maybe they think by condemning abortion they think they can stem the tide of a loss of future suckers Christians. They would probably support abortion if the largest percentage were atheists.
The majority of abortions are also received by white women. I truly believe the right is trying to change demographic shifts by abolishing abortion, causing the white population to remain majority.
@ElusiveMoby Yes and no. Anyone with the barest knowledge of abortion (and family planning and sex education) knows that outlawing abortion only increases it. When I was a member of ZPG we would talk to women about limiting their family for the sake of the environment. Many would agree but also add that by doing so meant the minorities would continue to have larger families and so the white, middle class would become a minority. A racist comment with some truth behind it. The middle class is dwindling.
We went through this before. 75% of Americans identify as Christians so Christians are underrepresented in the abortion pool.
So-called evangelicals are even more underrepresented. 23% of 70% is 16% in the abortion pool, yet Evangelicals make up almost a quarter of the total US population. According to Pew 8% of Americans are atheists or agnostics but they make up 12% of the abortion pool, making them heavily over represented.
Drawing unwarranted conclusions from studies does not help your illiberal campaign of demonization.
Indeed.
I don't so much have a dog in the religious fight, as that's all nonsense, but I do have a dog in the pointing out logical fallacies fight.
It is so encouraging to see other informed, critical thinkers.
Aren't there more christians than any other religious group in America?
I think so. That means they probably have more than the rest combined.
I would say those claiming Christianity at a very high percent.
And they claim to be so persecuted.
DesertInfidel was in before me and deserves the points for first comment.
My first first, I think.
Because birth control is also a sin.
So they can’t win.
