I'm a strong supporter of free speech and the power of opinion. It baffles me when these liberal ideologs allow themselves to be overtaken by negative feelings. I never understood why, as adults, certain people resort to name-calling and insults to other peoples choices and opinoins. It's dangerous when there are others who tell people how to think, talk, feel, dress and act. In the meantime, they have opportunities to focus on things in their own life that can be more uplifting. I believe it's better to fill the world more positive perspectives than negative ones. Anyway, that's just my opinoin.

Opposing free speech, no matter how repulsive, is the most egregious error a person can make.

I've been teaching government and the Constitution this summer. You are right about the need to protect 1st Amendment. But there is one limitation to free speech.

If the sperch involves an overt sense of violence or threat of physical, psychological, or other harm is not protected. A speech where an outrighr threat is spoken or applied is not protected. This includes such actions as cross burnings, which are classified as an overt psychological threat, or a hangman's noose outside someones house, school, or church.

That's why it is illegal to yell "fire" in a darkened theater. The implied threat of harm or injury as a result of peoples reaction to the threat is not protected.

The insanity of the google/yt/twitters recently demonstrated by banning as the result of the vox's shithead crap should be of concern to EVERYONE.

All in preparation to obstruct conservative comments in anticipation of the 2020 elections.

JacarC Level 8 June 10, 2019

That's because nobody like lies. Conservatives or otherwise.

Jacar if you want to be taken seriously, quit hiding behind a cartoon on your profile. You've bern hidingbfor a year now. Can't take a cartoon serious.

While I agree that the left is currently being portrayed as the enemy of free speech in that they have deplatformed several personalities like that Milo guy and Alex Jones and activists have shouted down speakers but an ostensibly conservative referring to ideologues is ludicrous.

Telling folks how to talk, act, and dress is the domestic policy of the Republican party. Any deviation from WASP culture is treated as sub human.

It's the I'm rubber, I'm glue argument.

So you use the term "liberal ideologues" as a slur, and then go on to say you don't understand how adults resort to name-calling. You also say "they" have opportunities to focus on things in their own life that can be more uplifting... while at the same time focusing on the negative in other people's lives.

If, as you said, it's better to fill the world with more positive perspectives than negative ones... you have to also note that this includes you as well.

..aggressive - passive..?

I believe I was focusing more on the reality of certain peoples behavior. I don't believe I was adding to the negativity that they possess. I simply stated that it would be nice to have a positive attitude when dealing with particular situations in your life.

@tiger78: And I was saying it would be nice if you didn't do exactly what you accused others of doing.

It is my opinion that on most occasion when "these liberal ideologs " lose their temper and resort to insults and name calling it is because their interlocutor is being, bloody minded, close minded, willfully ignorant and suborn. When reason and rational conversation has been brought to a halt by the deluded obstinance the other , and when both logic and fact have been insulted in favour of propaganda and inhuman right wing filth then Sometimes when such people will neither shut the fuck up or listen to any other point of view, everyone understand an ear bashing.
They and their ideas are a waste of human existence and so they are best left to their hateful fantasies with the silly delusion that they have won the argument after being faced with one more fact they will not accept, that they are a fuckwit, then a good way to finish the conversation is to descend to the level of the moron and identify them as such before departing.

"liberal ideologs" it is true that conservative opinions here are not very well received. I have yet to meet a conservative atheist in person and I'm 53 years old. If liberals joined a religious site we would probably be taken out with the trash too.

I unfortunately have had that experience, a man I admired very much, a british atheist, civil and gay rights activist who had worked wonders in his long life time, turned out to also incredibly, a right wing, Tory voting, capitalist scumbag who practically worshiped Margaret Thatcher.
What was really odd was that he could see no conflict in these two sides to his personality.

This one's for you, tiger78, to be used at your pleasure.

True, very true.

The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is that Good Men Do Nothing

@Jacar m You realize, of course, that the verb is "do", not say or write or scream. It is always action that drives change.

@Spinliesel Ahhh, the old, "If you don't have something good to say, say nothing." Exactly. Well, no.

"He who decides the rules, decides who loses." The categories you list are a reflection of the rules. To me, they are not good categories to be used to determine one's vow to silence.

There are many issues that are in need of exposing, no matter they fit in any of those too-broad, artificially limiting, constraints.

And: why is it so many people think, and spew, that those concepts are wrong?

Why do you think it is wrong to be racist? It appears way too many people defend this obvious "moral" without ability to articulate any philosophical justification as to its reason for being.

"Xenophobic" is a deeply genetic survival instinct. This is not something that can be easily overcome. Especially in a time when such a sense is telling us something is wrong.

You know what many people say: one person's freedom ends where another person's freedom begins. Or, good news: you're free, bad news: everybody else is free.
I wonder if good ideas can stand and can be defended by themselves or is it always coming down to the reason of the strongest.
I think when you go down on name-calling and insults, that means you ran out of arguments and you're losing the game. Whether you're doing a bad job defending a good idea or the idea you're defending doesn't stand a chance.

Who are these “liberal idealogs” to whom you refer? Why is it you are only singling out this particular group and not all people who resort to name calling others? Supporters of free speech apply it to all equally, they listen and then they either refute or agree in a polite and reasoned manner. I am pleased that you have been able to platform your opinion here, but it is not a very reasoned or lucid one.

@Antidronefreeman I was hoping to get a reply from the poster.

@Antidronefreeman and I thank you for exercising your right to it .

I'm only speaking of my experiences when discussing the topics in my post. I first heard the word ideologs used by Jordan Peterson years ago and it kind of stuck with me. If we were to discuss every person or group who resort to name calling, we could be here awhile, a long while.

@tiger78 you should have made it clearer in your post to whom you were referring.

@Marionville I thought I did. I apologize for any misunderstanding. Anyway, have a great day!

@tiger78 you too!

You name call ..then denounce name calling 😉 Are we to take you serious?

Varn Level 8 June 10, 2019

I wasn't name-calling towards any 1 single person. I was focusing on a particular group of people that I've had experience in the past with when dealing with the issues I've mentioned in my post. A dog is a dog, a Varn is a Varn and a liberal ideolog is a liberal ideolog. It's not name calling if it's true.

@tiger78 Sounds like broad-spectrum name-calling from here.. You denounce a spectrum of individuals, those individuals denounce you, and you fill unjustifiably picked on..? Then you get all specific, here? ..I’d say you’ve more than asked for it 😉

Allowing people to speak freely, very quickly helps you identify the assholes.

Another thing to consider is that, just like religion, many people have been indoctrinated into their beliefs, about others and about how the world works. Some of it is lack of exposure or education and in many cases it's environmental conditioning.

That doesn't make someone any less of an asshole, or their viewpoints any less stupid, in some cases. But, (1) I'd like to know who I'm dealing with and (2) it helps me feel more tolerant of them because, just like with religious indoctrination, they can't help what they believe.

I believe in free speech as long as it is not putting people at risk by way of bodily harm or reckless mischief.

Athena Level 8 June 10, 2019

It is unfortunate how easily some people can be manipulated or brainwashed, therefore building a limited perspective on life. For people to get a broader aspect on life, I believe they do need to think outside of the box or at least attempt to see things from another point of veiw. Your final comment in your post is very well stated. Best response yet, Thank You.

@tiger78
Thanks!

Ooookkkaaayyy, only "liberal" ideology call names? On what planet, exactly?

Yes, exactly. Isn't drumpf the champion of name calling?

True I currently have six alerts for things that I have said. Apparently I pissed off the conservatives who continuously call me a snowflake.

@Theresa_N true how many times have we all been called a libtard?
