Whilst having a slightly drunken conversation with my daughter, the subject of pedophile priests came up. This led us to conjecture what profession would these evil men assume if there was no religion?

If Priests were allowed to Marry this would clear up and identify a host of other problems that these persons of 'so called' with no where to hide or any reason to defend or deny their true feelings. Its a perfect existence for those who are in cognito to mask and pervert others.

They would be molesting farm animals.
Sheep probably... 😆

The sicko’s always seem to find a way to be in a position of trust working with children. Coaches, math tutors, judo instructors, teachers, etc. I will never understand why anyone would help to cover up these predators, as many of these church groups have done for decades. It makes it look like they care more for the criminals than for the victims.

They care more about the reputation of the Church itself.

@OwlInASack that makes it look like the CFD is actually running a Pedophile ring. I don’t understand how that is allowed to continue. It is a sign of the raging corruption in organized religions. The Catholics appear to be the worst, but are not the only church group who actively protects these monsters.

I don't know, but wonder, if they wouldn't have been sexual deviants, (enslaving nuns), or practicing pedophiles, if they had not been so extremely, and absurdly, sexually oppressed.

Juvenile detention center wardens?

@Antidronefreeman wow

Boy Scouts, gym teachers, baby sitters, fatherhood, coaches, ride attendants, youth group leaders, chaperones. Usually someone who has direct access to the young and impressionable. Frequently family, or friends of. Can often be a position of authority of youths, or mentoring or comfort role. But sometimes, none of the above.

5

Any profession that gives them access to children.

4

Anything that has easy access to kids, probably. But I would guess there are probably a lot of pedophiles whose career choices had nothing to do with their sexual preferences.

I also think that some of what we see when it comes to priests molesting children might be borne from a lifetime of sexual repression and denial. It cannot be healthy to view sex and the human body as sinful, and abstain from all forms of sex (including masturbation). Keeping such primal instincts and passionate desire bottled up forever cannot be good for a person.

4

There would probably be less of them if they were allowed to have normal sexual relationships with women...that’s as far as RC priests are concerned. For the others, they would probably be teachers or some other occupation that gave them access to children.

Pedophiles , are interested in having sex with children , wether they have access to a wife or not .

@Cast1es I know that...but they may not all have paedophilic tendencies if they were able to have normal sexual relationships instead of the unnatural suppression of them by imposed celibacy.

Con men. Same profession they have now.

Probably anything that got them near children.

3

One that would give them access to children with power over them . Teaching comes to mind . Think football coaches ?

That's a great question. Luckily, I have the answer:
Pedophilia'd take a big hit! They MIGHT not be pedophiles at all because they could:

  1. be with women, maybe marry, Imagine looking at all that hot stuff all day, not touch, and remain sane!
  2. be with men, maybe marry, ditto.
  3. be celibate because they really WANT to be. Unlikely, but hey, who knows?
  4. really, actually, be a pedophile. Unlikely, but not impossible. They DO exist outside the priesthood.
What would these strange people DO for a living? Like John Gacy, maybe they moonlight as clowns. Or widget-makers. Man, does it MATTER?

@josh_is_exciting No. They're horny and lonely and saddled with ridiculous, unnatural rules.

A lot of them would assume the role of 'openly gay man.' And indeed, this is the biggest tragedy, of the Catholic scandal, at least.

That's not to make a connection between homosexuality and paedophilia. It's just stating the completely obvious that if you take a sexually frustrated man, tell him he can't ever legitimately be intimate with the kind of person he's attracted to, tell him he has to remain celibate forever, tell him that (in terms of sin) molesting a child is no worse than having consensual sex with the only kind of person he finds attractive, and then put him in charge or a choir or an orphanage... bad things are sometimes going to happen.

People condemn the Catholic church for covering up paedophile priests, but it's actually a whole lot more insidious than that. The Catholic Church actively creates situations where child sexual abuse is an almost inevitable outcome. Perhaps not in every case, but certainly in some.

So when Catholicism saves your family the shame of having a gay child by quietly coaxing them into a convent or a seminary (and this still goes on in the 21st Century: it happened to the grandson of a friend of my mother just a few years ago) it actually creates situations where people who could have a legitimate and consensual sexual outlet with another adult are forced into situations where the only sexual outlet available to them is a criminally unacceptable one.

And all because Catholicism is totally fixated with breeding (to the point where it's one of the few mainstream religions that still prohibits contraception) and gay sex is the ultimate form of contraception. Absolutely zero risk of unwanted pregnancy. No 'happy feelings' from 'down there' unless you're giving God a chance to press his magic "Make a baby" button.

The ones who are genuine paedophiles (rather than sexually frustrated men living under a rule of enforced abstinence.) would gravitate towards other positions of power and respect. Scouting type organisations would probably be a favoured target. Indeed, they haven't been without their issues.

Pre school teacher

Yeah same as the other positions they’re always found in: teachers, coaches, tutors, bus drivers, costumed mascots and mall Santas, boy n girlscout troop leaders, probably photographers n many others. Not to say that a majority of people in those fields are monsters, but the monsters are almost always in one of those fields. Or IT if they mostly deal in porn/the dark web

2

Probably teachers and recreation workers.

1

Impossible to say, though I do think it's reasonable to say that without some organization constantly calling on them to suppress their sexuality, they'd be far less likely to end up with mountains of pent up sexual frustrations that eventually find their way out on whatever convenient target happens to be around.

1

Sadly, paedophiles have probably existed long before any organised religions were invented and they will, just as regrettably, still exist even when religions go the way of the dinosaurs.
In my opinion, organised religions have been just a means to an end for shit-sucking, bottom-feeding, scumbag paedophiles looking for easy targets and the Catholic Church has, until of late, sanctioned them and helped them to proliferate.

1

Maybe some would not become pedophiles. They would be allowed to get married and have sex. So they would not have a cause for the illness.
