They fear what god will do to them if they break any of his rules. "You're lucky I'm a god fearing man or I'd beat your ass right now". This saying fits perfectly with how organized religion wants you to feel. If you fear something then you're easier to manipulate.

It generally means that they are evangelicals. Evangelicals tend to be "true believers." I would advise you to stay away from them.

The whole concept is just STUPID! ha, ha!

Ya, god is gentle; he (or she as some of my women friends might say) GENTLY cooked those good people (probably most were "godly" ) on top of the WTC. My favorite expression that i have picked up is that "'some say that god created man - I say that MAN CREATED GOD!''

They are looking for a properly submissive woman.

When I asked that question as a child, I was told it just meant to respect God.

If the shackles of their deity were undone they would be marauding arseholes and attempt conquest like the Vikings.

God fearing is fear of reprisal and actually tells you more than they would think is conveyed.

So what does it mean when a women is a god fearing?

That god guides their lives?

Or Jesus is their savior?

Sounds like a mental problem!

How do they find the time to have a relationship with god(s) and an actual life?

They are so willing to be with the same type of males who hurt them before, because they are christians or god fearing!

When I was dumb and younger I had to go to church (family obliged me to) and this part where they taught about fear of god was so irritating! I asked them questions trying to understand why I should fear someone that symbolizes love (like you pointed out) and they gave up and just laugh at me for not understanding it. Very christian of them to laugh to a child for not understanding something haha.

The God of the bible, the God of the Israelites, is a jealous and wrathfull god. A violent tyrant that demands obedience and exclusive worship. The bible is filled with stories of this God and his son killing or demanding others kill in their name, and proclaiming death upon those who do not worship. Remember this is the very God that created hell as a place of eternal damnation where those who do not accept him will forever be tortured. Yes the book also claims this God to be loving, but to believe that you'd have to either ignore everything else to the contrary, or accept that he hurts you because he loves you and it's your fault for not being faithful. That's the logic of an abusive relationship

They say that to show they believe in the bs of religion. Your not missing a damn thing,

Nothing at all.

It means a portion of thier brain has been corrupted with religion. Sad, really.

My understanding is..

1. They believe God is watching if they commit a sin
2. They believe that bad things will come if they do bad things
3. They believe that's what the scriptures (the world of God)
4. They believe these beliefs make them good human beings and that is why good Christians

They think it is God's rule to make human beings good so we can fight the devil that makes us do bad things but God himself is benevolent.

Every preacher can interpret it differently and they do. You can too.

God fearing means that they respect the rules of god as interpreted by their flavor of faith. Also, hell. They don’t want to go to hell

My experience of prison inmates who are all devout Christians now, tells me that they have no internal moral code or self-control, but only avoid doing evil because they're afraid of a supernatural punishment. If they had any kind of personal morality, they wouldn't be murderers, thieves, rapists and child abusers in the first place.

To "fear" in this instance is to " revere or respect."

It is only of passing interest, but the term 'God Fearing', was originally put into Christian theology back in Roman times to answer the classical pagan philosophical argument that. 'If god is all good, then those who try their best to be good, have nothing to fear from god.' Christian philosophy was defined as being different because it included the idea that a believer, should accept that god could ask you to do bad things, and do bad things to you. The short term for that idea was 'God Fearing' and being such was seen as the main difference between Christian and pagan belief.

It's an old term but "god fearing" means you are a believer and you know god could do bad things to you. Anyone remember the old Merle Haggard song where he sings "momma used to pray my crops would fail?" This is the religious momma praying for her god not to let this son who has strayed prosper in any way. This is Christians for you. Myself, I just pass off the saying by asking "why are so many people afraid of god?" My stepdad used to say I was "going to split hell wide open." I thought Jesus did that.

Deeply it means they do what ever the preacher tells them ..afraid of burning in hell forever....the gawd idea is like the Russians or Martians are going to invade their neighborhoods ....the peace love dove gawd is for Quakers and Sunday schools for 6 year old girls

They are scared of straying from the Holy Path for fear of facing god's wrath, which he has demonstrated numerous times throughout the stories of the old testament... Basically, they are saying that the only thing that keeps them honest and within societal limits is the fear of eternal damnation.
