The other day a while carpooling with two coworkers, one of them, who is quite religious (he heads a Bible study group at lunch) told us that being gay is a sin. The way he said it made it seem as if it were an absolute fact. He started telling us that being gay is not natural and he started discussing about how the process begins. He said that it can start in high school with some guys getting together in the same way a football team forms. I am not fucking joking. He said they can start by being curious and one thing leads to another and next thing you know they are performing gay sex acts. At this point I almost fell out of the car! I had no idea that his religious logic would lead him to these bizarre conclusions. At this point I told him that my brother is gay and he knew it way before he ever attended high school. It just so happened that the other guy that was riding with us spoke up and told us his brother was gay also. I have to say I didn’t want to get into a big argument about this with him because I know it would more than likely lead to the end of the carpool and I wasn’t ready to sacrifice that arrangement. Just wondering if anyone else runs into religious folks with similar ideas?

Eating bacon is a sin... an abomination according to the Bible. But that's not something they want to hear.

I personally chose to be gay when I was about ten. I was looking in my underwear drawer and asked myself, "Do I wear the Superman or Batman undies today... and while I'm at it, what sexual orientation should I be?"

Yes, it's funny how religious people pick and choose what they want to hear. In the world of science, chososing what you like is not an option. This is another aspect of how science and religion differ.

As him why his "perfect" gawd created gays, if not to test "as you treat the least of ghese,you treat Me"?

I'd ask him how he knows so very intimately the proccess that leads to gay sex. Sounds like an insider's story to me.

Lol...very good point!

@Sandman07 also, this

@1of5 Funny how they only protest what they personally don't agree with. Fuck what their god thinks.

@Sandman07 I'm living through stolen images today

A guy I worked with (married, two kids, wife was so butch she made loggers look poofy) once stated in anger, "It doesn't matter that I think about it a lot, I have never ACTED on it, so I CANNOT be gay!" Another coworker that open and confident said, "Honey, speak more slowly, we can't make out what you are saying through the closet door!"

...cuz it isn't about WHO/WHAT you are, you are defined by what you act on, apparently. So if I wear an inflatable T rex costume then I am a dinosaur!

@Canyonrunner inflate it with helium and have someone video you doing your best dinosaur sounds. It's be awesome, just remember to breath real air every so often. Don't wanna get a Darwin award.

People I know think it is a sin and that that people can either stop being gay, through the power of Jesus; or, at the very least, can refuse to engage in homosexual behavior. In other words--they can deny who they are. If someone doesn't overcome their gayness, it is because they just don't want it bad enough, or trust in Jesus enough.

When someone says it is not natural, I point out that it is absolutely natural/normal for a certain percentage of any given population to be homosexual. If we were to find a society in which there is no homosexuality--that would be abnormal. And, of course, it is also seen in other animal species.

There is about th he same % in animals, all animals, plus across all human "races", and always has been, even before xianity

Yes, and some have changed their views about gays because they work with them and respect them as they get to know them. Some have the dogma ingrained so deeply they can't accept them as good people even though they may be more moral and generous then their Christian brethren.

I tell you straight up, my brother is gay and I wish I was as good a person as him.
