How do you feel about religious displays in the workplace?
My supervisor has crosses and religious paintings and prints on her office walls. In addition, she wears a large cross necklace to work on a fairly regular basis. Because of her position and the location of her office, employees and students have meetings with her on a regular basis.
How would you feel about this, and what, if anything, would you do about it?
If it is where the public can see... I'd take it down.
I've been in sales my whole life. I was told early on to be aware of the first impression people can make about you. You ARE being judged. With that in mind, I have never had a political bumper sticker on any of my vehicles. Right now on my truck I have an oval with 5.56 in the middle (Think 26.2 or 13.1 sticker) and a small sticker on the other side that shows a Trijicon logo... Nobody has a clue! (Except those who know.)
As some have stated, depends on the business and if the area is frequented by clients. Personal office, probably okay, but if open to the public or in this case students, I would look into HR to see if it could be toned down. Perhaps ask others you work with if it bothers them? A majority can make changes.
When you look at her with that big cross ... think of the film Paradise Faith in which a woman masturbates with a crucifix - bet thats a new image of your boss to smile about
it would mean the same too me if she had cartoon characters all over the wall
Wouldn’t bother me. It wouldn’t affect me one way or the other
As long as they're in personal cubicles or offices, it's the occupant's business--though I'd have my own paraphernalia reflecting my own views in my space. If there are public displays or proselytism, that's another story. All that said, I'm soooo glad I'm self-employed and work at home....
Religious displays don't bother me at all... It's a myth... How do you feel about mythical displays?
Personally I’d look for another job.
I had a Pentecostal boss who would insist on telling me his retarded stories about speaking in tongues and witnessing for Jesus. He also loved Trump and forced me to listen to his rants against Hillary. I tried but I couldn’t keep the disgusted look off my face and ended up getting laid off supposedly so he could consolidate the department in one location.
I would try just to not even religion to them, I would allow them to start that chat, but I would let them know where I Stand on it
not to be a rabble rouser or such, but if you don't have an employee manual, itd possibly be appropriate to post whatever divisitve paraphenalia on your desk.. political or antheistic other... to get clarification on the issue. but, if she keeps her stuff in her office, and if you could wear a tee shirt with a slogan or such, then...?
