Here is my take

1. The future of the planet is not in danger. The world will be ok and we will be here safe and sound
2. 'The world is ending' panic alarms have been sounded 7 times in the last 50 years, every time it was super super urgent. Al Gore predicted the world would freeze by 2014. The Sun is shining nicely outside today
3. Hundreds of dire predictions of the world calamity have been made in the last 50 years. Not one has been even close to reality
4. Every single time, various big name scientists were quoted
5. There is science, weird science and junk science. You can use science and scientists to justify about everything in the world. The Bible thumpers often quote the Bible as the proof that the Bible had had already predicted what science recently told us
6. Let's not forget what were sold in the name of science - plastics, DDT, harmful fertilizers, GMO, processed food, Opioids, exercise, paleo diet, vegan diet, avoid meat, Guatemala syphilis study, Tuskegee study, safe nuclear energy.... We all believed all and lived under all in some fashion. We now know most of them were harmful or not true.
7. Nobody denies that we should reduce environmental pollution such as air and water so that we can all breath clear air, drink clean water and be healthy
8. A lot has been accomplished since we knew about pollution - more alternative energies have been created, wind mills have started, electrical cars are made, ride share and public transportation are encourage and incentivized through logistical and tax planning. More is being done every day
9. Yelling at advanced and progressive nations will solve nothing. Even if 100% of advanced nations adopt extreme climate measures, there are 230 countries in the world and underdeveloped nations will do almost nothing to even control pollution. That is the reality. Yelling at the UN accomplishes nothing.
10. Protests that solve nothing are a nuisance. There are millions of people around the world who are quietly joining the solutions instead of protesting.
11. Greta Thunberg was invited to speak and make a statement about climate change. When you are invited, it is a privilege. You do not yell at your hosts. This is a lesson parents teach their children. She was obviously not taught this and many other lessons on manners, etiquette, civilized behavior and importance of gratitude
12. Playing a prop in activists' hands is not very smart. It gives you short term fragile benefits but leaves with holding the bag in the end.

@St-Sinner Should have included those words in your original post, makes more sense in context! Personally, I can't stand the delivery system used but it certainly got world attention. Plastic in the oceans and plastic politicians, unreal, lets see what the next 50 years bring, most of the culprits will be dead by then, hopefully.

The real story is it got the world's attention and the world said, enough, get the fuck out. The environmental activists are also doing a backlash saying we need another messenger. No Greta, not again.

You have a point there.

But this sentiment is stronger among people and followers who did not win. They celebrate big time when they win and say... Who Cares? when they lose. LOL

Because we like, dislike , have opinions and live among people. They include all these people. We can pretend we do not care but we are here to express opinions about them.

You seem to be saying that because someone is autistic they cannot be stupid and do anything? How far can your blind passion for one class go? Would you allow an autistic child to come from anywhere and slap you in a street? The world does not work like as you want. That is what Greta Thunberg did at the UN. There has been a backlash for Greta Thunberg's outrageous behavior. There is plenty of compassion but also rules in the real grown up world. Applying compassion to wrong places is stupidity and certainly the Nobel Prize Committee does award stupidity.

@St-Sinner so you are implying people with different abilities should know their place? Ever hear of free speech, not "free speech for those you find worthy"? "Outrageous behavior" vs, passion & heart....try to see the difference.......
BTW, the Nobel Prize is decided Months,if not a year, before it is awarded,her not getting it this year is because she was not eligible, time-wise, you fool.

There are young and poor and there are old and stupid.

You got it right. A wasted life so far but there is hope if she and her parents realize how fucked up they have been so far and reverse the course and start working on being normal first before being world famous.

The world will move on and will forget Greta Thunberg tomorrow. But she is the one who will have the pay the bills as an adult soon. What she has so far will not pay the bills because arrogance, impoliteness, lack of manners and respect for elders are the values you learn while growing up. She missed that bus but there are late buses in life to complete the journey. She can be late but not stupid forever.

Not a single person who has been singing her praise here will do anything to save her. Nothing and Nobody. All compassion for Greta just like for illegal immigrants here is just from the comfort from their own homes..

The world moves on for everyone, everyone has to pay thier bills, and here's a shocker for you - famous people get more opportunities to make money - so she'll probably be fine in that respect. I wasn't worried about her before, still not worried about her now.
