I've just found out about 2 great grandchildren we didn't know about.

Our son & girlfriend had a daughter in 1994, but they split up & there has been no contact since she was 9 years old. We saw her last when she was 6, as they live in Saskatchewan. Son had no contact either.

Last week, that granddaughter found our youngest son on flakebook, & contacted him, in turn he gave her my email, & we've been getting to know each other a little with messages.

She is married & has a little girl, & boy.

Really cool of the granddaughter to make contact . One good thing about FB .

Sorry.

But your son sounds like a real piece of work.

How did he get away with not supporting a child?

He just abandoned her?

You may have other offspring out there, then - if he is that nonchalant about it.

I got away without paying support for many years by living in a state that did not support uniform child support enforcement. My ex got state support in Missouri for the 2 girls, then after 20 years I moved back to Missouri. This meant that I had to pay for all the time that I did not pay, or go to jail. Paying was the right thing to do.

Other than this how do people get away without paying? They threaten and make a woman believe they might kill her, OR that particular woman never files for child support.

My son beat his girlfriend up in front of their daughter, & he got kicked out. She moved on by leaving the town, & totally shut herself off from everyone. Her family lives there but they weren't talking, & she wanted nothing to do with my son & I do not condone what he did one bit.

He's always had a mean streak, but she was very good for him to start with. I hold my son totally accountable for what he did.

After all these years, at age 50, he's finally showed signs of smartening up, but he's never had another relationship. I always said he was born in the wrong century as he thinks women need to be ''trained'' & we should all serve him. Get real!

It's like walking down the street one day and finding money on the sidewalk... lucky day...except you've found people.

Cool.
👍😎

Oh Joy! And i like the reference to "FLAKEBOOK.

Flakebook, fakebook....all the same to me.

@Lilac-Jade I quit over a year ago. It actually wasn't that hard.

Sounds like a happy beginning to me. 😁

That is wonderful...I hope it blossoms into a close bond. Let us know how it goes, eventually meeting up some way down the line.

Saskatchewan is a long way from us, & the Greyhound bus service no longer exists. I do not fly, & travelling is not good for our health issues anyway.

They are farm people, so I doubt they can travel that far from home either.

Her whole side of the family is there too....parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles.

Our son has no contact & I will not tell him unless she says something first. It was he who blew the relationship with her mum.

@Lilac-Jade Maybe some day there’ll be a way to meet.

@Marionville We could also never go to Sask. under any circumstances & not tell our son.
Only time will tell the tale about what kind of relationship we can make.

@Lilac-Jade I think eventually he’ll probably find out that you’re in touch....who knows what may happen down the line. I was just thinking that it would be nice if you could meet them in person some day.

@Marionville We seldom speak, & my other two kids are not really in touch, so it'll have to be up to the granddaughter if she wants contact. He is not online either.

I'm quite happy to send emails, & receive some photos.

@Lilac-Jade You could Skype/facetime/whatsapp and try to find a way for occasional face-to-face communication with your granddaughter and her family. You can be close without having to travel.

@citronella Yes...that’s a good idea.

@citronella Already thought of this but I HATE cameras, & live video makes me extremely uncomfortable, the couple of times I've tried it.

Congratulations. I hope something true develops from your discovery.

This sounds like it could be wonderful! Sadly, in today's world, at the first mention of money (loans, gifts, anything to do with money!) DISAPPEAR! Best wishes!

That is not my world.

@Lilac-Jade I certainly hope not, and that it never is...but my Mom's long-lost family found us (from eastern Europe) and after the initial happiness, it was hand-out request after hand-out request, and increasing guilt-inducement when none was forthcoming. So I speak from sad experience. My Mom & her sister (who being much older & born there could remember some of them) were devastated, in fact 25 or more years later were still sad about it.

@AnneWimsey Well her whole side of the family is established there, & this is Canada, not Europe. They all own land, & run farms.

@Lilac-Jade, nor mine. And knowing where someone is can be nice. But trying to build something with strangers is, well, strange.

@freeofgod It is strange....& it will have to be a slow process.

@Lilac-Jade the parallel was eerie as we, both the Slavs & those here, were farmers...we had dairy cows as well. Not like we were rich (not even close!!!) and refusing to share.......
