Impossible Whopper........thinking i was being good to myself, i ate an Impossible (plant-based) Whopper from Burger King. Turns out i saved 30 whole calories, but ingested about 1/3 More sodium than a real Whopper provides. Since i need to watch my sodium, i just shot myself in the foot! Thanks, Burger King. It did taste pretty nice, but over 1,000 mg. of salt??! Geez Louise!
Black bean burgers are delicious and healthy. Fake meats are processed sh!t.
Funny, I just received my latest copy of "Nutrition Action." An article "Moo-less goes mainsteam" lists the different meat burgers versus the plant based ones. Burger King Impossible Whopper has 630 calories, 11 grams Sat fat, 1,080 mg of sodium and 25 grams protein whereas the regular whopper has 660 Calories, 12 grams sat fat, 980 mg sodium and 28 grams Protein. The list covers several chains. A friend (whose daughter helped create the plant based 'meat' ) stopped by and he said the lack of health benefits are well documented. It is simply to help people reduce their negative impact on the planet. So what's not good for you is good for the planet - some choice.
Wow, I did not know that. I tried one two weeks ago and was pretty impressed. That will be my last one!!!!
See my comment above.
Thanks for the warning . Did you know that you can get salt free French Fries ? You do have to ask for them , specifically .
I had a friend that always asked for salt-free french fries in every fast food place she ate at. It wasn't because she was on a salt restricted diet; it was because the restaurant is forced to make them fresh so she was guaranteed fresh fries.
Oh good to know. They have just started pushing it here in Australia (BK known as Hungry Jacks here) and I was wondering how it tasted. I need to check out the ingredients though because I think it contains soy which I try to avoid. Thanks for your review. Good info.
Burger King Impossible Whopper review.
I stopped for lunch today to try the veggie whopper BK has been pushing. The following is my impression and opinion.
Thought #1 Why is a Veggie based burger so much more expensive than a beef based burger? Regular Whopper $4.49 Impossible Whopper $5.59. Over a dollar more.
Thought #2 Very dry, very bland. The only thing I could taste was the lettuce, tomato, onion and sauce. Might as well be eating damp sawdust.
Thought #3 My dog is smarter than I am. I tore off a piece and he ate the bun and left the rest.
Conclusion: The only thing "Impossible" about this thing is getting me to buy a second one.
Only 30 calories? WOW! I knew the sodium was gonna be higher.
My sister told me she tried one and it was pretty good... But salty.
I know...and about 1/3 more expensive, $8 vs. $6 for a Whopper, plus i could have had 2 junior whoppers for $6. Curiosity satisfied, i now return to "normal" junk food........
I've tried a lot of vegetarian ground beef substitutes. I've had much better than BK's, which I found dry and rather tasteless. Plus, it lacked the char flavor of the actual beef burgers. Unfortunately, I noticed the last time I ate there, the beef burger is lacking much of the char flavor and aroma it previously had. I'm guessing they adjusted their broiler for less output because it was overdoing it on the fake burgers.
I don't think Whoppers taste as good as they did in previous decades, and numerous people I've talked with have agreed with me. Perhaps the quality of the meat isn't as good today as in the past?
@MST3K I've definitely noticed it with Wendy's, which stopped using the flat grill to cook their burgers, making their burgers dry (contrary to ads run in the 80s, with dry burgers being thrown around). As to your point, probably so, because of the move to cuts with less fat, which usually means less flavor. I think chicken suffers from this as well.
@bingst I actually haven't thought of it quite that way, but of course that makes sense. I usually eat burgers for the taste myself, although I still enjoy a Whopper even now.
While working today I had to make a u turn at a McDonalds and decided to order a fillet of fish and a small fries. Big mistake. Cost was over $7.00, threw half of roll out-too much bread, fries were cold and salty. Felt sick the first bite I took. I don't use salt. It was gross. Never again! Next time a piece of pizza at $2.
I hear ya! The "fish" doesn't taste like fish at all, might as well just order tartar sauce on a bun!
If you are eating fast food for health reasons or being good to yourself, well, who's kidding who?
Curiosity, plus hungry & needing to eat on the run......
@AnneWimsey next time get a salad
I haven't had a fast food burger in years and from what you're describing there I will keep on passing for years, but when I do make a burger I know exactly where the beef was born raised and slaughtered approximately 35 miles as the crow flies from where I live. And as far as the sodium goes Morton salt would go out of business if they depended on me. And I'm happy you enjoyed it.
Did it taste like a burger?
It tasted lovely, but if it has More sodium, and only saves 30 calories, WTF??
@AnneWimsey yeah exactly!
To me, it tasted about as good as frozen veggie burger patties I've tried at home. It's okay, but I'll probably stick with regular Whoppers after trying one.
@MST3K thanks for the info..
Americans expect to be salted with meals.
This is only one of many reasons that I rarely eat out.
Since avoiding sodium, I have become a better cook, and do quite well eating out, too!
I asked as I ordered this thing, they said they had no info & to look it up on Google, which I did after I got home.
@AnneWimsey Wow, must be law in CA - all that nutritional info has to be posted! But I’d read about this stuff. If and when I eat vegan, I choose real, fresh foods as close to whole as possible. Masquerading as meat seems at cross-purposes with veganism
@Justjoni it'sthe law everywhere, but I cannot beat it out of some teenaged employee.....
You should have asked for their cell phone when they told you to Google it
When they refused, ask for the manager.
