I feel sad that you’ve decided to take your post down, but realise that is your choice. I don’t think we should feel responsible for other people’s angry or abusive comments though, and allow their adverse reaction our posts to compel us to curtail or remove them. The fact that some people can’t handle seeing contrary views to theirs and lash out negatively, does mean that a nerve has been touched, but they need to keep their responses civil, and if they don’t I suggest blocking them. It would be a pity if we couldn’t feel free to air views and ask for opinions without the thread being taken over by someone with an axe to grind (as I’ve found out several times just lately). That’s just tolerable as long as they don’t become personally abusive, which unfortunately sometimes they do when they can’t win by reasoned argument, and then they often resort to personal attacks...that’s when the blocking option needs to be used. Sadly, there is no reason to believe that this site is any less prone to knee jerk responses and immoderate language than any other.
