Commas matter:

Let's eat, grandma.
vs
Let's eat grandma.
😎
Update : Oops. Just saw a similar comment below. 🤔

@RichCC Either one is a real humanitarian. The second one, in the same sense as a vegetarian.

I've been a vegetarian for years.
I've never tried to be a humanitarian.😎

A humorous look at the importance of punctuation:

Let's eat Grandpa!

Let's eat, Grandpa!

WHO’S SUPPLYING WHO?

Say ‘NO’ to Drugs from the NMB Police D.A.R.E Officers.

Oops! That one missing comma turned police officers into drug dealers.

. . . and the apostrophes' proper placement !
(see what I did there ?) -- and some alliteration (kinda) as well ! 😮

Love it!

I'm a big fan of punctuation. It's very important in programming languages, too.

I didnt know that naturally

In Python whitespace is considered punctuation ! 😛

@FearlessFly in REXX, whitespace indicates concatenation. That still bites me in the ass in every other language.

Whaddayasayin..

Yanowhatimsayin!

For the sake of a comma, "Let's eat, Granny!", could be a completely different experience!

That's right. Let's eat granny! Yum

I bet Norman would remove the comma!

@Geoffrey51 I bet he would!

Yes punctuation can certainly change the whole meaning of a statement

. . . I'm partial to the elipsis (and the parentheticals) 😛

@Gwendolyn2018 . . . mea culpa, I am not worthy 🙂

...And the serial comma is proper and good.

Agreed, it can aid context and understanding.

Yep! I look at it like a computer program. The commas delimit the data and within the commas you can have groups of things using logical words like 'and'.

I've become obsessed with the serial comma!

I thought it was called the Oxford comma.

@BitFlipper That's just the name brand.

@BitFlipper I believe you are correct.

If you wiki 'Oxford comma' it redirects you to 'serial comma'.

Shhhhh! (Should be an apostrophe after ‘n’ )

I agree entirely.

Oops. Added the apostrophe. You're so right.

@Wildflower No probs

What the ?!😘#!;

Yep, it's a thing.

It's killing me not saying "just saying"... 😀

Ohhhh, I got you going!

@Wildflower You know how you do, beautiful 😉

Ironically, living in a culture that mainly wants to express itself in textual format, you'd think they would be better at it. But then again, they probably learned from their parents...

The almighty They 😂

My kids think I’m mad if I put a period at the end of a sentence when I text. I don’t even know how that’s a thing!

I agree whole heartedly .

That might be true, but I'd rather argue about god than commas... I'm just saying.

You go right ahead, I'll excuse you from this thread now. I prefer not to argue about God nor politics.

Part of my arguing against gods were countless letters to editors (LTE’s). Some newspaper editors would leave the submissions of those they didn’t agree with ..confusing and difficult to read, often due to their lack of commas.
