Hoping to get in to see a doctor soon... We learned that my B12 was very close to deficient months ago. Deficient is 200 & mine was at 205. I started getting the B12 shot which is supposed to give you energy but it ended up making me far more tired. When tested 4/5 months later, it only went up to 207 so my doctor decided that I should just take b12 vitamins daily instead of the shot since it makes me tired. I also try to eat a little bit of meat daily in order to get it to go up. Although I don’t really like it and it makes me feel horrible. I also don’t have money for groceries since I had to quit my job to do my internship, so I mostly eat with my family or roommates which means most of the food available to me is meat since that’s what they like. The problem is that things have gotten far worse than just being fatigued. Now, just about every time I eat meat, I get shaky, dizzy, lightheaded, nauseated, and often overly emotional to the point that I sometimes start crying. The other night my vision got so blurry I could hardly see and I thought I was going to pass out. It is starting to become really overwhelming, especially with not having the means to completely change my diet. I hate looking online for medical advice but my doctor has not been taking this very seriously and acts like a lot of it is my anxiety. But this feels different.. Does anyone know what could be wrong? They say I’m not anemic so I feel like my body isn’t processing b12 correctly. I’m 22 years old and I don’t think I should be this sick all the time. I feel drained constantly.
Go to a walk-in or other clinic, just describe your symptoms, do not mention the B-12 thing. Your "doctor" is an idiot, IMO. It sounds like severe anemia, which requires Rx iron supplements to get ahead of, and they take awhile to kick in, (then you can switch to over the counter kinds)...too much iron is dangerous too, do not self-medicate! I got this at age 13, lacked the energy to climb one flight of stairs to Latin class...I also got B-12 shots but that does not help anemia. Plus the anemia could be from some form of internal blood loss....I repeat, your doctor is an idiot!
@1EarthLovingGal I repeat...new doctor, stat. And physical symptoms Always need to be addressed first because they can be the cause of depression! Never allow yourself to be treated for mental issues unless the physical ones are being addressed properly!!!!!!!!!
It sounds like meat is messing with you.
Meat isn't the only source of B12. And I'm by-no-means a vegetarian, but you never know where meat comes from, what the animals were fed, or how it is preserved.
Sounds like you’ve already identified that your diet sucks and is the probable cause of all your issues. Find, or make more money for healthier food and everything will improve. You have to choose what’s better for your health vs your wallet. It doesn’t seem to be working the way you are living right now. Make the changes you need to make you feel better.
Sounds like perhaps you are exhibiting symptoms of anxiety and depression perhaps from eating meat. Must of this could be psychological and this may be a case where the doctor needs to heal herself by letting go of the guilt. Keep in mind that many of the so called "supplements" you get in the stores even those calling themselves "organic or natural" are completely unusable by your body. You can also get B-12 from eggs, milk, and yogurt...
@1EarthLovingGal Well I haven't really met you or spent time around you so I was going by my best guess is all...
