Philippines priests have changed their ash Wednesday ritual because of COVID-19 (Corona Virus). Instead of smearing the ashes on the foreheads of people, they are just sprinkling them over people. I guess their all powerful god isn't stronger than a virus?
God wants to see ashes smeared on people not prevent a virus he created from killing people!
What a scene! Are the priests providing sackcloth to go with those ashes?
I'm sure if the virus gets to America, it will only kill the gay community.
Hopefully it will only affect the orange community.
IF????? It is here now.
I didn't know. I was starting to ask myself was the American government dealing with the situation well. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear it and I hope they can contain it.
Of all the christian traditions, I miss Lent most. 40 days of introspection and acquiescence can't be all bad. I stopped "giving up" things prior to my departure from the church and started "giving up" actions. One year I stopped dieting altogether. Did not consider calories, carbs, anything. Most difficult thing I've done in my life because I think I've ALWAYS dieted. I lost 12 pounds.
My point being, I still observe lent. Not in a religious way, but in a introspective way. I think it healthy to the time and since the church already has it mapped out, I can use their calendar. It breaks up a dull winter.
This year, I am not eating out, as I'm trying to empty my pantry prior to spring. So, eating cans without labels is pretty exciting and cathartic, don't you think?
Glad to see precautions are being taken - now could the church please do something about the abuse of children by priests.
