Like it or not, the world is heading for a recession. The remedy for a recession is for governments to create full employment of their citizens.
Although huge public projects can create work, the most effective and time-honoured method of creating full employment is.....
......

war

A war on climate change perhaps?

I wish!

Pretty much sums it up, WWII was the Only thing that really worked, despite FDR's best efforts.

Awful, but .....

Here in the US, bush jr’s wars actually led us into recession, or depression. It’s likely why Obama won the peace prize instantly upon taking office, they knew he wouldn’t be starting wars.

I hope, over here, our Congress will know better, no matter how large the Orange One’s tantrum, than to start a war.. We sure could use an infrastructure upgrade, but one set of our Republicans refused to give Obama β€˜a win’ of any kind, so it didn’t get then. And another segment claims/ed the deficit was/ is too high. interesting times…

As per the old curse. "May you live ....."

The only way Congress will support the rebuilding of our infrastructure is if we get rid of the Republican controlled senate. Please request an absentee ballot if it is allowed in your state so people with a brain will be able to vote.

@Lorajay Yup ...they’d spend trillions appeasing their Industrial puppeteers.. As our Interstates and bridges crumble. Here in Virginia we had an amazing event take place - for the first time in decades - the entire state legislature, including the Governor is Democrat. Everything’s heading for the better, to the extent of State Legislation. Achieve that on a national scale, and it’s clawback time!

Can Canada invade the northern states in the US? Might be good for everyone. Sadly many of those states are in crisis right now due to COVID19 and Canada would be stupid to take that on. But fuark if they could control the great lakes region, the ports in WA, and the financial sector in NY, theyd be fat and hopefully happy.

This was done in many countries (including Germany) during the depression. It did work. Even in my area there are many viable structures and programs started by our WPA program.

Hey, we're in luck! No one has a better military/industrial complex to feed money into than we do, and our blind love for everything military means we'll never run out of raw meat to feed the grinder!

WE'RE #1! WE'RE #1! WE'RE #1!

Now the tricky part comes, living through it. But I've got a fresh pair of bootstraps to pull myself up with, my shotgun if they get too close, and my AR-15 to keep them from getting too close.

I wish you weren't right.

So do I. But ......

I totally reject that analysis.

It's happened again and again. Read Machiavelli's The Prince for a cynical look at politics and power.

@Petter We need to change that mindset...it is not inevitable..nothing is. I probably read The Prince around the same time you did, over 50 years ago.

@Marionville Early reader, were you? πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

@Petter I was 25 years old 50 years ago...I actually read it earlier than that!

@Marionville I was being 'gallant', as you probably realised.

@Petter Thank you...but it’s a matter of record on my profile page!

@Marionville A gentleman nurtures a selective memory...... πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹
