I have always been rather skeptical about ideas like hidden dimensions and parallel universes. It's nice to get any crumb confirming one's position. I'll take it! ☺

I know that every time I crash a bike, gravity lets it's presence known...

" Gravity does not exist, everything sucks," LOL.

Nice find. Thank you for posting. These are the fun discussions around here.

I don't think dimensions are hidden ... that's a bunch of hooie, IMHO.
Think of one dimension (x-axis) ... then think of two (x-y plane) ... then think of 3D space (x-y-z coordinates) ... the 4th, 5th, 6th through 9th are all the same "size" as the previous ones.

I think the term 'hidden' is/was a hypothesis. This experiment "failed" to confirm that hypothesis. A failed experiment is still useful, i. e. -- the canonical example :

@FearlessFly Nice nik, btw.
I've seen NdG Tyson mention "hidden" dimensions, so I think this is an idea that has caught on.

Whenever an experiment confirms existing theories - always mixed reaction. Yes, it is good that our understanding still works. But, damn! wouldn't it be neat to discover something truly new and unexpected! I was one of those disappointed when faster-than-light neutrinos turned out to be a mistake a few years ago.

Consider this "failed" experiment :

[en.wikipedia.org]

There was really not much hope of discovering that anything moves faster than light.

@BryanLV Why should that be so?
Is it not possible ONLY because we humans, with a mix of arrogance and somewhat limited understanding have said it must be so because they ARE the Universal Laws that WE have decided MUST exist?

@BryanLV It was especially odd that they were going only a tiny bit above c - if you are going to break the speed limit, why by so little? Why not by a lot?

@FearlessFly Note that Michelson-Morley did make a big discovery - ether as the medium for light does not exist... light as a wave needs no medium! Most experiments looking for violations of something like the inverse square law for gravity show only that it works up to an experimental limit.

@Triphid WOW. Considering that Einstein/Feynman/whomever hasn't come-up with a legit experiment to falsify (what you refer to) Universal Laws, I propose that YOU give-it-a try (perhaps your understanding is not so "limited", you seem adamant/arrogant enough). Then write a scientific paper about your results and submit them to your favorite professional peer-reviewed journal. You might just be awarded a NOBEL.

. . . good luck with that 😛

@FearlessFly Oh come on @FearlessFly, did you not see that I placed the 'LOL' after my comment re-Gravity?
I was adding a bit of humour btw.
However, IF you are referring to my comment re- Universal Laws then I stand by assertion that these so-called 'Laws' are merely just 'laws' made and introduced by HUMANS and not by the nature of the Universe.

@Triphid

below, (quoted verbatim -- no editing by me/you) is your comment that I replied to -- NOTE -- no lol, no emoji !

"Why should that be so?
Is it not possible ONLY because we humans, with a mix of arrogance and somewhat limited understanding have said it must be so because they ARE the Universal Laws that WE have decided MUST exist? "

@FearlessFly Yes, correct and I stand by it 100% since WE, the Humans, have deemed that thes so-called Laws of the Universe and Everything within it MUST apply, BUT ARE they so in the Actually Universe, does ANYONE know as a 100% certainty that they are as we state, emphatically, they should be?

@Triphid Of course, science can and does disprove some things (falsification), but AFAIK, there is NO CERTAINTY is science (apart, perhaps, math). There is always doubt/error bars.

It would be one thing if you explicitly say "In My Humble Opinion" (IMHO), but . . .

It is hard not to notice that your assertions do not give references to credible sources to support them. Nor do I see any claim(s) of your technical qualification(s) despite your insistent claims. All the more reason to question your "bloviations".

@FearlessFly I have always remembered what I was taught by a very highly educated High Scholl Science teacher with more degrees after his name than I can recall , " Never accept anything you are told as being 'Gospel' not matter who is telling you, including me, for we ARE merely humans and very arrogant and fallible creatures to say the very least, research for yourself, absorb knowledge like a sponge does water, weigh the evidences, the Pros and the Cons, then remember to always leave room for doubt and further developments that will come over time."
So, I hope, most sincerely, that answers at least some of your questions because IF it were NOT for those who doubted. questioned and researched for themselves then would we not still be living the dark ages?

@Triphid Apparently you have failed to notice that at NO time during this 'discussion' did I actually ASK YOU any questions. Scientifically speaking -- EPIC FAIL 😮

@FearlessFly That be your opinion and I shall stand by and defend your right to express your opinions and bloviationsas well just as anyone decent would do.

@Triphid . . . this from the guy who "brags" about hurling epithets (the 'name-calling' "discussion" ) at your choosing. Yea, right, so decent of you 😮

@FearlessFly toquote from a favourite show of mine, Mrs. Browns Boys, " that nice."

@FearlessFly Dont waste your time or breath. This guy has no life and will just argue and move the goal post until you give up. Realize the futility now and let this guy continue to believe he's the smartest in the cosmos.

@FearlessFly Notice he weights his hs teacher as comparable to Einstein/Feynman/Hawking? Plus every other scientist who has posited the theory that nothing known or measurable moves faster than light? And every experiment to that end?

Trust me. Pointless.

I am aware that gravity still works. I have no "faith" in it as the religious want to claim, but I've never been able to fly either. If you are holding a ball and drop it I am aware of what will happen to that ball every time.

There are differing levels of faith. Like when you get out of bed you have faith the floor will be there. Religious based faith is nonsense and you and I know that

Best I could ‘understand,’ the ‘weak force’ of gravity is due to it being shared by multiple dimensions, I think ‘twelve.’ This is the stuff I hope is figured out … at least to a point I can understand it.. before I die 🙂
