I cannot prove, but strongly suspect that the death figures from covid 19 are being grossly exaggerated.
I believe that a high percentage of these deaths are of elderly people who had serious underlying health problems and were near deaths door anyway. Any contagious illness could have pushed them through that door. Some of these people may have actually died from other preexisting conditions unrelated to this virus.
Deliberately inflating the mortality rate may be a useful tactic to induce panic in the populace and thereby increase compliance with government commands.
The downside is that it ignores the deaths and misery, present and future being caused by the economic collapse being created. The end result may turn out to be far worse than the disease.
@dumasarok you have chosen an appropriate handle for yourself.
It’s not just the elderly..
@Veteran229 Then let me rephrase my brief comment: It’s taking out more than the elderly..
good thing you have lots of bloggers to help you stick to your beliefs, since you have no evidence. kind of an ad hoc church, it sounds like.
someday there will be archival footage of the refrigerated body trucks and mass graves. unless you think thats being fabricated too, like the moon landing. youre lucky you live in west bubmblefuck
Church? Moon landing?. Anyway, the conjectures I made were my own thoughts and not borrowed from any other source.
@dumasarok ok well, ill take it back then. if yopu are just making shit up without any evidence whatsoever, bully on you. if you want any evidence, you can look to other people who like making stuff up, or read and do some research. in which case you will change your mind. up to you.
Fun fact for the tinfoil hat brigade.Regardless of pre-existing conditions,it is the final actor that gets named as the cause of death. You could be suffering from stage 4 lung cancer and be hours from death, but if you're hit by bus, the cause of death is "hit by bus". Do pre-existing conditions make you a bigger target? Yup. did they kill you? Nope. The actual numbers are actually low right now-home deaths and many in smaller hospitals haven't been tallied. And bot China and Russia are grossly undercounting. Many Third world countries simply lack the infrastructure to report accurately.
You are correct and I appreciate your response. My point (and I concede I was not clear) was how do we evaluate the real risk to the majority of our population that are not in a fragile state of health. More data is required to answer that.
@dumasarok dude theres fuck tons of date. fuck tons. most of us can't parse it because we don't have the education needed, but its out there. work on your PHD in epidemiology. youll go far
@MarkiusMahamius I think the word you are searching for is epistemology. You can find it in your philosophy coursework along with the analysis of logical fallacies. We have no data to parse regarding the damage that a destroyed economy will do to us over the next two or so years. I do believe it has the potential to be devastating. That is an opinion, not a statement of fact so there's no need to get emotional.
@dumasarok Another fun fact. The Great Depression lasted almost a decade, not everybody missing out on restaurant reservations for a couple months. I'm still waiting fr someone to eplain how our economy is going to collapse over this lock down. Will farmers stop growing and selling food? Will people decide they'll wait 5 years to buy a car? The dumping of $2 trillion +, in the US alone, will limit the impact, though it may take a bit longer to actually get the money out, tRump being an incompetent idiot. Airlines may take a kick in the financial nuts, but they've been ripping off customers for years, so karma is running over their dogma. Cruise lines?I'm sure the shithole countries they chose to register in to save taxes and wages will jump to their aid. Unlike the 30s,there are still jobs to return to and money to spend.
@dumasarok N, he's right. You're confusing studying medical data with a religious belief. he data is out there, readily available. And even those countries reporting are acknowledging they don't have all the counts We may never know the actual counts in Africa or parts of Asia where record keepers may never get to ask who died.
So, almost half a million infected. (By actual count of hospitalizations, probably many many more) and almost 30,000 deaths. (Around 4%, as of the 10th), isn't bad enough, we need conspiracy theories too.......
I think it makes much more sense that it would be the other way around.
A large death toll makes the powers that be look bad. It's the last thing they want. More likely that they would intentionally deflate the death numbers by doing things like reducing the number of available tests because it would then make it appear that they are doing a good job of handling the crisis. This is why it is suspected that the Chinese numbers are higher than they are being reported by the Chinese government.
People are much less likely to comply with the demands of the authorities in chaotic times. Look at what happens when there are natural disasters, people loot and commit crimes because of the panic and disorder. Governments are very keen on stability. Their primary goal is to remain in power and the last thing they would do is intentionally create an unstable situation because it makes it more likely that things may not turn out in their favor.
Yup - see China and Russia.
I see you live up to your name!
Clever, thank you.
@dumasarok You’re welcome.
Is your suspicion based on anything at all? Do you listen to Fox or other 'Conservative' media?
"Deliberately inflating the mortality rate may be a useful tactic to induce panic in the populace and thereby increase compliance with government commands." The Federal government has been incompetently slow in proscribing commands that would minimize the death rate, so what are you talking about?
Or, you're a troll...
I don't see this as a liberal/conservative dichotomy. I do see a need for honest evaluation of the total effects of what is being done. In my opinion this entire problem should not be politicized at all.
You are a FOOL! STFU!
Thank you for your well reasoned point by point response. It's always enjoyable to discuss the merits of an argument in a dispassionate way.
@dumasarok too old to tolerate Dumb.
