I just received a text, one of the engineers that worked in my department died last week at the age of 70. He was an annoying Republican anti liberal but he was also an insanely talented power engineer that worked with DC, one of his favorite stories was about seeing a locomotive cut in two by a DC arc that didn't work out as planned.
In a sense we were at odds politically but we were also in a mutual admiration society for one another's extreme talents and knowledge.
I'm more heart broken than I was when my Father died, and just as conflicted.
That's two dear workplace friends dead within three months.
The first was a WWII vet that invented the technology I work with. I inherited his position when he left for health reasons, those are big shoes to fill with my tiny feet, but life goes on.
This is a fucked up Easter, not a lot of resurrecting going on but the candidates keep stacking up.
Heal soon. Emotion just is. It can not be explained. It is chemistry of the brain & one might just accept the pain until it dissipates. I too had a nemesis politically that always made sure things ran smoothly for me in my employment past. He was an angry, resentful turd, but when it came to me & the respect he had for my work ethic, he came through. I had a few "old timers" that resented women "taking their jobs & reducing the status of a man's job", but winning over veterans of real wars by not playing the menstrual card in order to get out of a rough assignment, went a long way in acquiring their respect. Again, heal soon.
Sorry to hear about it. It's a joy to work-with, or even just be around, super talented people. You were fortunate to have the chops to recognize his talent and benefit from it. Even if he was a little crazy.
Lost one of the engineers that I rarely see (he was at a different site), but always end up getting tanked with at work do's. Within the first 30 minutes of the last work Christmas party, we'd requisitioned excess wine from the surrounding tables, and created a functional catapult from table decorations for launching the god-awful hard candies at the project managers and senior management.
Vale, Rob, you bloody mad genius.
I'm sorry. It's tough to lose someone you have mixed (but strong) feelings about.
We are all of us more complex than our political ideologies, age, or other societal constructs. Your respect and care for him speaks volumes to me of his stature and worth as a human being, so I grieve your loss, and the fact that he died so young - for both of them, actually. Treat yourself with particular kindness, and {{{ gentle hugs }}}.
It sucks. A friend of mine posted video of chick saying she watched fox news and all these deaths are reported to take our civil rights away. I had a terrible day Thursaday with Corona virus patient discharged home and script called to where they had to drive to get them. several had been in and out of the hospital a few times before being tested. I went to Walmart to get supplies as daughter is making masks. It was empty. as you could not come in without nose/mouth covering with mask, scarf, etc. This woman passed me pissed she wasnt allowed in and said, "Damn Democrats."
I did end up getting pharmacy who delivered to 2 of my clients..One zi have been calling daily as she is in late 70s. had virus. but was relatively healthy so once treated for pneumonia went home. Call ed hospital to fi d out about her boyfriend who was on ventilator and found he died. 2 days later her 32 yr old daughter tested positive and her baby was delivered by C-section and she was put on ventilator She would be doing OK, but the tragedies have her too depressed to eat.
When I hear the Potus and his pack, Fox News and people in my community not taking precautions because the information they hear is minimizing the risks.
It is sad those close to you died. And sad they died alone, because once they are sick enough to be hospitalized they have minimal human contact ex pet what is necessary and no family or friends to be there with and they arent ably to say goodbye or that they love them.
Sorta counter intuititive considering he's a talented engineer and a conservative... Sorry for your loss.. Both...
