I've recently started yoga and I love it. I have a friend at work who is devout Catholic, hard-working, supportive colleague. We were talking about anxiety and she shared that she prays at her desk at the start of every shift. After listening and acknowledging her approach, I shared my own.
'Oh, Catholics don't do yoga. We don't engage in ANYTHING from the East.' Said with a straight face.
WHAT THE HELL?
That is raw, unadulterated prejudice. I used to be so careful to not stop on religious toes, but, you know what, I LOVE YOGA! There, I've said it and I will keep saying it every day for the rest of my life!
Thank goodness I'm me and not her. I actually feel sorry for her. How sad.

Thank you for comments and encouragement, everyone. It's a new week, time for new perspective! Glad you all are here...glad I'm here. πŸ™‚

Jesus doesn’t Like bendy people. However, you will get more health benefits from yoga than from praying so.....

lol now I'm a bendy person...like Gumby. well, that sure leaves a mental image, Markus lol just giving you a hard time. I actually like claymation, it's not a image. And yes, truth is, her cube is like a shrine to Jesus. JESUS! Why didn't I see it? I guess its because I have wonderful deeply religious friends that are not prejudice.

Religions indoctrinate people. That way they make their congregations pliable. Most, though not all, religions should be put on trial for "crimes against humanity".

I felt punched in the gut with her remarks. She said it so confidently, with the power of the church behind her. yes, indoctrinated. so sad and yet, so alarming, too.

I know plenty of Catholics who do Yoga, andmost of my friends are in their 70's....so it can't be a new idea......

I know plenty of Catholic friends, too...do they do yoga? lol Haven't run into this before. She's more devout/extreme than I ever imagined

@crazycurlz Many Muslims I know are faithful to their religion, but accept that anyone who follows a moral code is a good person. It is the people who come under the influence of extremist sects of any religion who become weird, be they Muslim, Catholic, Jewish or Evangelical. That's the saddest thing about organised religions, the way ordinary people are fed distorted information as being the truth..

@Petter and so sad how otherwise intelligent people just eat up distortion without questioning.
Question then, about Islam, if you can shed some light: I know Muslims, too, and it appears that they are accepting of others. But I don't read the Qaran. Did Muhammad teach death to the infidel or not? Any thoughts on that? I've read there was a text that appeared shortly after Muhammad that modified his teachings and made Islam more along the lines of the crusaders...militant.

She is very sad

yes, LeighShelton. But, what mad me sad is I didn't see this coming. Usually I'm pretty astute, I've got my armor up. This one just rolled me. I think I've recovered but, was disappointed with how vulnerable I felt. 😟

you can't catch them all so don't beat yourself up
