Time for you liberals to do some serious self reflection: why do i support big government? Your bicameral mind seeks an authority and since you don't believe in God, you replace God with Big Government. Big Government works in mysterious ways. Big Government takes care of me. Have faith in Big Government. Big Government is almighty.

I promise never to reply again to this poor man and give him additional points.

Amen! 😂

You're so full of shit we all need chestwaders. Maybe stop telling others what you think anyone else believes.

9

As usual, you are dead wrong. Being a true believer in a total system religious ideology is the opposite of belief in strong democratic government. I do not understand how you can so persistently get things so wrong.

8

It is you who ascribes the concept of "Big Government" to a deity by your generalization. Our country is big. That is why we have a government of parts: Federal and State and then local governments within. It is not the concept of "Big Government" that is the problem. It is the bigness of our country. Because of this bigness it can never be perfect. So it is up to us, the citizens, to be the watchdogs. Nevertheless, we need a philosophy of government to guide us in shaping our government. Here, there will be differences. Do you have an idea of what government is supposed to do? I would rather see a discussion on that rather than your generalized jab at liberals.

@Thirst2learn Thank you for your reply. I'm sure you have specifics concerning your mention of initiatory force and fraud. I'm sure those specifics are valid.

7

I don't know anyone who believes any of what you say.
Liberal or otherwise.

@Thirst2learn I think you are coming from a very narrow viewpoint, and are seriously mistaken.

@Thirst2learn That is your perception. It is not reality.

@Thirst2learn No. You are confirming your own bias. You're just scapegoating other people to justify it.

@KKGator conservatism very narrow and pious ...do as I say and not as I so

@Thirst2learn Over, and over, and over, business has shown that they cannot be trusted to do the right things.
They have, and continue to, abuse their employees. They have to be held accountable for their actions. Government has the responsibility to keep them from running roughshod over people and the environment.
The Great Depression was a product of the rampant, multifaceted destruction wrought by the Robber Barons of the Gilded Age.

Business is great, but it's not the end-all, be-all. That's the problem when you have people who worship Big Business like a god.

@Thirst2learnI don't worship a damned thing, turkey -- not even an irrational libertarian ideology.

@Thirst2learn Nothing. But,. limiting government to that is what is absurd.

@Thirst2learn I don't know where you get the idea that anyone thinks "big government does no wrong".
That is pure extrapolation to the most absurd degree.
Again, no one thinks that. You just think they do.
Your perception is the complete opposite of reality.

@Thirst2learn Stop telling me what I think.
You are 100% wrong.
I simply do not agree with your extremist positions.
That does not mean that I go to the opposite extreme.
Are you incapable of nuance in your thinking?
Besides, the workable answers are usually found somewhere in the middle. Extremes are hardly ever successful.

@Thirst2learn You continue in atrocious libertarian fantasy.

Ohferpetessake...do you also eat SHIT when you want chocolate? "Apples & oranges" seems a bit weak for this silliness!

6

So somehow by reducing the size of our government yet, at the same time, having the largest population (and counting) which includes a huge diversity of people most with different cultures, languages and ways of viewing the world somehow everything will magically come together. More and different people in a given area requires more regulations and structures not fewer. Why is that concept so hard to grasp?

5

Did Texas legalize recreational drugs?

I wish.....you are on my soap box ... we have paid so much for the racism that created the war on drugs

4

Thirsttolearn is literally the biggest misnomer in this forum. You don't want to learn, you just lipsync GOP and Libertarian drivel without the education necessary to frame it with reality.

He has no clue how politically low his views are, is the sadder part. There is no self-awareness of it.

4

Sounds like it’s not Big Government you would dismantle but any form of government. That is called anarchy, a recipe for chaos where the only people who are the winners are the strongest and most ruthless.

To be honest anarchy sounds alot like abject stupidity. Which is what I gather from most of OP's posts in the first place lol

@Thirst2learn nope an actual observation. Most of your posts sound like qanon trumper halfwittedness

@Thirst2learn don't do drugs of any kind. Unlike you taking an IV of maga stupidity right into your veins. #magaisdead

4

Why do I support big government? Are you saying that Trump was not big government and that he was all for "America first?" If you are I do not need to talk to you. I'm also not replacing a god with any big government. I'm just glad that Reality TV is no longer in the White House.

4

Truth can be painful. Hence the hostility to your post.

There is no truth in his post. It's ignorance that's painful.

@KKGator More hostility.

@PBuck0145 That's not hostility. It's reality.

The whole "worshipping big government" accusation is something that is always directed at the People, when in fact, it should be directed at corporations and Wall St.
They're the ones who benefit most from many government policies.
Especially during the last "administration".

There is little to no validity to the "arguments" often made by those calling themselves conservatives.
There is nothing wrong with helping people.
The incidents of fraud perpetrated by those who receive assistance is miniscule.
Especially when compared to the fraud perpetrated by the wealthy and corporations.
Just look at the levels of corruption, greed, and fraud within defense contracting.
It's less than humane.

It has been ingrained in some folks that we can't afford to help people.
That's simply not true.
It's another lie fed to people by those who don't want to contribute to the societies we all live in.

The reality is that our success as a society is rooted in our humanity.
There is no reasonable argument that can be made against that.

@KKGator you are so right my dear....these emoluments as the thieves and crooks in the republican party call them actually grow the economy and they help ppl that are struggling to provide....its not like anyone anymore can just go out and shoot dinner ....too many ppl and our jobs and our lives are all affected by what our government limits or protects from con men and crooks ....I wanna see money for the poor ...ive been there and I worked every day.....
\
besides how come they are only concerned when liberals are in charge .....when conservatives are in charge they blow up the deficit and hurt so many of the weak

@PBuck0145 Not hostility, but simple truth,.

4

Cool story. Put down the maga drugs

We have to find a middle ground. Both extremes are bad. Each side has good and bad things. Here is what each administration should do:

PROGRESSIVE

  1. Reparations
  2. Full civil rights and equality
  3. Equality at work place
  4. Healthcare reform
  5. Strict control over capitalism
  6. Full gun control, ban assault weapons, eliminate second amendment, prohibit all guns in hands of public, prohibit high power military style weapons with police, make illegal gun ownership punishable with a minimum of 25 years with no parole and make all gun manufacturers fully subject to civil suits with punitive damages by citizens, not just victims
  7. Healthcare research funding
  8. Eliminate religion from government and from everything that is funded by taxpayers at all levels
  9. Remove religion tax exemptions
  10. Make every religious worker register and require a license, CPE every year, and ethics course
  11. Disallow every abuse at church to be managed inside, every abuse must be reported within 72 hours of an outcry, make special courts to speedy religious abuse trials
  12. Increase tax rates above obscene CEO and executive salaries
  13. Stop golden parachutes
  14. Limit medicare and social benefits after certain high net worth
  15. Reduce the estate tax exemption to $3 million
  16. Make laws against diplomatic, military or economic relations with dictators or governments with low human rights records
  17. Withdraw all funding to Israel and Egypt ($3 billion in total)

CONSERVATIVE

  1. Strong defense
  2. Fiscal discipline
  3. Full Congress approval each year after each country's negative imbalance
  4. U.S. must be a positive trade in the net with each country
  5. Eliminate all subsidies to - agriculture, auto industry, Boeing, and all else
  6. Eliminate all food stamps, free hand outs
  7. Totally stop all illegal immigration including asylum laws, deport every single illegal immigrant including DACA
  8. Remove the right to citizenship by birth (modify United States Constitution and the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)
  9. Encourage merit based legal immigration highly
  10. Deport all immigrants who create a public charge, criminal records, 2 or more mortgage failures etc.
  11. Build a strong wall from sea to the shining sea with electronic mechanism to catch all crossings
  12. Make helping any illegal immigrants in any shape or form a serious crime
  13. Ban abortions federally with strong restrictions such as mother's life in danger, rape or incest
  14. Implement voter ID laws nationally
  15. Withdraw all unnecessary military bases around the world, and make the countries basing the bases pay for all expenses
  16. Eliminate income tax and make a higher rate (20%) uniform consumption (sales) tax. Discontinue all state sales taxes.
  17. Make military service for every 16 to 18 years old to serve for 3 years mandatory, Fake exemptions to be investigated with public complaints and prosecuted.

Not sure anyone would agree to these lists...

@Canndue

That is why the country is so divided for so long and nobody is agreeing with anyone on anything.

@St-Sinner because only you can fix it lol

@whiskywoman

Trump can if you want him again

3

Which agencies or departments do you seek to curtail? What cuts do you recommend? The department of offense? Bicameral legislature underpins your united states.

@Thirst2learn Very few peo0ple would agree with you in any truly democratic country. You are not even a conservative, but an extreme libertarian who wants the freedom to do anything he wants to without anyone putting any limits on you. Tat is not how ANY social organizat6ion or government works.

@Thirst2learn Much of your stuff is ridiculous that I have to laugh.

@Thirst2learn "That's exactly what the government does, kill and steal whenever it wants"

If that is what you truly believe, then wouldn't the size of government concern you less than what you assert the government is doing? In any case, some supporting evidence to your accusation, please.

If my years of government service taught me anything, it's that we (the people) are the government, and the government is us. What useful purpose is served by engaging in "othering" a group of people who come from the diverse society they serve?

@Thirst2learn My beliefs are informed by my personal experience and continued friendships with colleagues in the government, so once again, evidence please. Are you speaking from personal experience?

@Thirst2learn Ah, so you're a proponent of voluntary taxation, a system that would benefit only those who are able and willing to pay? You seek to remove one of the two certainties in life as noted by one of our Founding Fathers?

"Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes."
Benjamin Franklin, 1789

3

Just nonsense, you sound like a believer.

Everyone else has faith in something you hate.

@Thirst2learn now you sound ignorant.

@Thirst2learn is there an echo in here...?

3

As always, your opinion is noted. For what it's worth.

2

Big government is actually antithetical to liberalism. As a liberal, I OBJECTIVELY KNOW we need to work toward a minimum government. Count me OUT of that and stop spreading nonsense about Liberalism.

@Thirst2learn Fuck ‘em. They can get stuck in a tar pit and have their nipples set on fire because their stupid rulings made our situation today.

1

I have no faith in anything, including faith itself, but as one who once took a paycheck from the US Government, I'm wondering what size government should be, in your opinion? What does "Big Government" mean to you?

Do not feed the troll!

Here's a city moron: the population has increased and so has the number of developed cities all 9ver America, and so has our quality and complexity of life.

Thats a GOOD thing. We arent stagnating and diminishing. We arw GROWING. America is getting expanding, becoming more complex, has more expectations.

This isnt the wild west frontier of the 1820s. We have electricity, water, internet, the environment, roads, flights, health education and business of 350 million citizens to think about. Not to mention protect them from backward morons like you who think they have better way of ruling people than the people themselves.

That's why we need a bigger government, stupid.

What we need is efficient less corrupt government. The size of it is irrelevant.

Do you get it now?

@Thirst2learn. Wait... you don't know? For real!?

Dude, you havent figured out the real reason why prices are high and people are poorer? Property values, man. Think about it:
People realize they can slowly increase the price of rent or raise the price of their house. This means over the decades a $200 apartment now is $1200. A $50000 house is now $300000. A business that used to pay $2000 a month 10 years ago now has to pay $6000 a month. This also means increased taxes on property which gets passed on to the renter.

This means ALL businesses now have to increase prices of their products or services to bring in more revenue. It also means they have to underpay their employees. This is why people are poorer in general.

And because of this companies have to exploit cheap labor overseas, inorder to reduces costs. Making people even poorer.

This is not due to any communist policy, this is due to a capitalist free market economy of a very limited resource: real estate.

Welcome to unregulated rampant capitalism, pal. 🙂

@Thirst2learn the value of the the dollar is one of the highest there is! Lol you need to get financial education.

@Thirst2learn yet you provide nothing to support your claim. Because you have nothing.

@Thirst2learn. Ah I see your lack of knowledge.
You see, an IOU is a legal document. It's backed by the laws of the land, specifically US laws, and even more specifcally US contract law.
It means if someone doesn't pay their IOU you can sue them in court.
The worth comes from living in a place where the laws can be enforced by the government.
Not from a pile of metal which can lose its worth if everybody decides its not worth anything.
Do you get it now, dum dum?
