I recently fell on hard times and needed to move back home. My mom is a jahovas witness and said I wasn't welcome in her home because I'm an atheist and have no morals. Anyone else have the same experience.
I'm sorry you have to go though that, I know it must pain you for your mom to shun you like that. I hope you get back on your feet soon. Jehovah's witness is like a cult and they have poisoned your mother's mind.
All religions poison peoples minds. Shame on you for picking out Jehova's witness,
@VAL3941 i don't know if you read the post or not but the religion at hand was Jehovah witness....smdh
Sorry, don't spell so well.
I am presently going through similar circumstances, except that I am forced to keep my lack of belief to myself for fear of what you described above. I understand what you're going through, and the Agnostic.com community is here for you. Take care.
I have had similar conversations with Religious conservatives like that, but not in my family. I feel for you man. I am homeless myself at the moment and can only access a computer at my local library branch. I know how things can get rough fast. I hope things get better for you.
Not personally, but I've had friends how have experienced this. Truly sorry you're going through it. May your skies clear quickly, all the best.
Thanks
Goes to show her how she is m aking a snap judgment that has nothing to do with reality. DO you have other family you can stay with or friends? Unfortunately your mom is doing exactly what one part of her religion tells her to do why ignoring the contradiction you know has to also be there.
Really sorry for your situation. Hope things improve for you soon.
People who believe atheists have no morals, are actually pretty immoral themselves.
They're also hypocrites. If they claim to believe in "god's love", then they should be
accepting of all of their god's creations, including atheists.
That is their worst hypocrisy.
Didyou point out what a "wonderful" xian she is being? Sadly, about all you can do...best wishes!
I haven't had the same experience but I'm wondering why your mother says you have no morals. Does she associate atheism with a lack of morals, or is this a personal criticism? I think generally it is a bit like women having to be better at things than men, in order to be considered equal - atheists have to show they are more moral, generous, caring, forgiving, etc., than people who claim to be christians to show that they are not immoral.
It is a basic premise of theism that anyone who rejects the belief in god(s) has no morals and that is why atheism is looked on in such a negative way.
Most of my Christian friends are loving with their kids but lots of fear of not believing in God. One evangelical friend though is on the extreme: she threw her daughter out at 18 and this was one of the big 'justifiable' reasons...not under my roof!
Jewish parents I know are tolerant of the whole spectrum of religiousity with no fear of non-believing.
You'll get through ClintReed. The stress has got to be great, but, often when we hit rock bottom, we find a solid path forward.
I've lost a lot of people for defending myself when the 'atheists are toxic to the community' discussions come up. I refuse to let them spread bullshit. They seem to think they can insult my beliefs but when I mock a magical zombie ghost in yhe clouds I'm 'insensitive and offensive'
Most of us are familiar with the Bible and Jehovah's Witnesses pride themselves in some ways with how closely the conduct themselves to the (direct) teachings or the Jesus represented in virtually all translations. He was not one to folow the 'doctrines of men'.
Refusal to associate and/or ostracizing or 'disfellowshipping' all comport not to the Biblically described examples of one wh broke bread with the likes of tax collectors and prostitutes, but of dictates and doctrines articulated by men; in their case MALE 'men'.
Without using it as a means of acceptance but to possibly cause stirring of a brain cell or two, I'd remind them of that they're refusing what their hearts tell them in subservience to such doctrinal admonitions. It has to be discomforting and one can hope, thought provoking.
Remind her that she's supposed to love unconditionally
You must have a mother that actually gives a single fuck about what her kids has to say....unlike most black mothers.
???
@FinchiMcQ wow racist
My ex had the hardest time with my "morals" because all religion is based upon fear of eteranl punishment, and if that is missing there is "no good reason to be good". She finally understood that "do on to others" is really in your best self interest and has nothing to do with commandments. Making friends, not ememies is always wise if possible without retreat.
YES. My African Mother is a chiristian , infact she is a pastor herself. This year 2018 the past Febrary told her that i an not acting to be a christian since i , personally, find christianity to be non-sense. She demanded me to leave the house before i was physically bitten . She thinks i am the devil. YEsterday i returned home and asked if i could stay. Ofcourse she allowed me to stay even though i hear her praying ' please in the name of Jesus, you devil get out of my daughter' .
So, then she's not an actual Christian, just likes to play act at it.
No she's the real deal. She's doing what her book tells her
Clint I would always look at the positive side. You are living a truthful life and not under any indoctrination brainwashing. I'm dating a former Jehova Witness, who has told me of that cult! She looks back and wonders how she could of believed that crap. So I think there is hope for you & your mom, but it won't be easy by no means. You have to educate yourself on the Jehovah religion learn all you can, so at some point you can show your mom, the craziness of her cult. 1st lesson if you don't already know is who created it (Chales Taze Russell) a man not a god. good luck!!!
I loaded up my car and drove west to be with my girlfriend. I got here and was living out of my car temporarily. On my my to my nightly parking spot, I wrecked my car and lost everything. My clothes, my guitars, everything. My girlfriend at the time asked her mother if I could spend one night. Her grandmother had to consider all the religious rules and regulations before allowing me one night.
