Blocking: I'm curious... What do you (specifically) use it for on this site? I just blocked my first member today, not because they attacked me in some way or anything like that but simply because their posts are obnoxiously moronic to me I just don't even want to see their posts. I've put it off for some time now but so sick of seeing the same post, tweaked into a different arrangement of words, time after time from this person.

Am I alone in this or do others block because they just can't stand another poster?

Some people use it to feed their passive-aggressiveness. They'll start an argument and then block the person after they've stated something nasty about or to them. That way they can be hateful and that person never knows it or can respond but everyone else can.

Blocking should be where you can't post to each other... not where you can't see whatever has already been posted.

Blocking anyone who annoys you is blocking yourself from different ideas.

That does not mean you should not remove them from your life.

It means to think carefully why you do not want their shite in your face.

Cuz it might not be shite.

My approach is to ignore them. Do not read their words , and do not respond, if you do.

The rule is: "Don't feed the trolls."

They win if you block them. Just ignore them.

But,,..... Do report them for very bad behavior. No doubt others have done.

They do not "win" if you block them. That's ludicrous.

@Leelu I wonder what could be won by being blocked other than a momentary illusory notion of what it means to win.

I've blocked a few for various reasons, my sanity is worth it

I have blocked one person, Fathercat, who went outside of this site trying to find me on other sites such as FB & Twit. This indicts he is a CREEP. Some people block frequently. Other not at all. So it really is up to you just what you want to see.

I've blocked a few. When someone persists in saying things that are untrue or misleading I feel compelled to respond. But I don't need to respond if I don't see them.

Nothing wrong with blocking, I personally haven't blocked anyone, but I have been severely temped. If you feel the need for any reason, do it.

Blocking is fine for any reason. Whether you're just annoyed, discord even harassment. What I think is lame of to report a post because you disagree with it. If it's really that bad, admin will take it down themselves. Don't report a post unless they are abusive. Coward's way out.

You can block for any reason you like, I suppose. I never have though. If it is a post type you do not like, you can also tweak your settings to show me less of.

I block right wing nuts. And everyone right wing is a nut imo.
For that kind of garbage I would watch Faux news. I don't have the patience.

I have never blocked anyone, but have, on occasion, been relieved when some blocked me. I generally like the idea of unrestricted communication potential, because that’s how we all learn. It’s usually easy enough to scroll on past. But I can certainly understand the temptation.

I guess I block often. I have 252 people blocked. Some are annoying, others are assholes, but mostly I don't remember why.

Okay, I get that, low threshold for crap and you want you experience here to be what you want. Fair enough.

Are we taking about KWAPELL7??

No but I won't identify them either. This post is not to dog someone just curious as to what the line is for some people. I guess I feel a bit guilty for blocking them when they haven't personally done me any harm. I'm curious as to how others make the decision.

@David1955 I mean, I haven't blocked him, but I've considered it. I think he's disingenuous. I've attempted to have discussions with him to see if he could articulate his point and support his claims, but it always devolves and goes nowhere. He tends to get very aggressive, thinks way too highly of his intelligence, and apparently believes using a thesaurus on every word proves he's as smart as he thinks he is. Harmless? Sure I suppose. Repetitive enough that a block might save you some aggravation? Quite possibly.

I do find some members posts kinda annoying (good riddance DangerDave), but I have not blocked anyone. 🙂
