Imagine throwing a Book of Mother Goose nursery rhymes on the table in front of a kid . You tell the kid that he has two choices either he believes every single word In the book or you’re gonna blow his brains out. That would be crazy but that is basically what’s being done to indoctrinate kids in the church in regards to getting saved and hell. The Bible is the book of fables and hell is the gun going to blow your brains out except hell is much worse than a bullet.
The fear of hell dominated me for most of my life. Why is that not child abuse. I can still remember how scared I was as a little boy listening to a preacher talk about it.

I can imagine it because I am a PK (preacher's kid) and now agnostic. You're right about the book of fables. The indoctrination continues for xtians and muslims alike. Just look at what's happening in Israel now! Those religious idiots are killing each other left and right, blowing up buildings like doll houses. Both sides think they're right, and we non-believers know they're all wrong. Showed a little girl pulled out of a leveled building - what kind of a fucking god that is supposed to love "his children" would allow such a thing?
So my boss is catholic, and he opines recently that all the folks in Palestine should be killed so the jews in Israel can live happily. WTF? Those poor xtian bastards (catholics are xtians with a few extra crazy thoughts) are so mislead - it's staggering. He's a pretty nice guy, but he was indoctrinated to think "we are commanded to protect the jews!" Hell, xtians don't really even like jews coz they think the jews killed Jesus. They all hope they are one of the 144,000! I tell xtians if you're right and I'm wrong, after the rapture and the rise of the antichrist, I'll kill the antichrist (I'm a really good shot)!!!

It IS Child Abuse...BUT...there is a distinct "Separation of Church and State"...which allows them "Freedom of Religion"...it's a double edged sword is it not...?

It is child abuse, and I speak as a victim. The fact that it is not recognised as child abuse is a clear indicator that the God Mob still has far too much power in legislatures around the world.

I had very similar experiences, and my mad mum genuinely believed she was "saving my soul" and not turning me in to an emotionally damaged loon with only years of therapy to look forward to.

I DO consider it child abuse. Fortunately, I was raised in a not very Catholic household. We kids were “sent” to church, “educated” with the Catechism, and “made” our “First Holy Communion” and “Confirmation”, but my mother didn’t really “practice”, except for Easter and Christmas. In retrospect, I think my mother decided to meet her “responsibility” to raise us as Catholics, but pretty much left us to draw our own conclusions, which I did by the age of 7. Each of the three siblings came to a different conclusion: I am a strongly anti-theist agnostic, leaning toward full atheism, my brother practiced no religion, but believed in god and was in fact afraid to die, and my sister, after three failed marriages, found the perfect husband and married Jesus...she is a Catholic Sister.

@LenHazell53 funny you mention a talking bush! The same one that's blazing but not consumed by the fire! I once told my bible-thumpin' self-righteous brother (to whom I no longer speak) that Moses and I are both men, one no better than the other. So if there's a god, let him set that palm tree over there on fire for me. Assbag says "you ain't no Moses!" And I said you are judging me, and Matthew 7:7 explicitly says not to do that. They pick and choose what they want to adhere to.
@Stilltrying1964 The evangelicals are good at hypocrisy, even when you point it out with their book. Most have no idea about th ed history of their religion either. The evangelicals think they always existed and the catholic church is heretical. I saw a hand painted sign in West Virginia that said following Muslims, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Catholics were roads to hell.
