What a difference a mask makes.
Taiwan enforced a mask anytime in public policy.
Population 24 million 15 thousand covid cases 858 covid deaths
Texas no enforced mask policy except locally
Population 29 million 3.4 million covid cases 55,450 covid deaths

So why the heck did we bother with all of this lock down masking annoyance when there wasn't even a vaccine? Well it's because we needed to buy enough time to get a vaccine cobbled together from all of the research we had already done on other Coronaviruses in the past and then put out the best vaccine we could manage in the shortest amount of time with the full knowledge that a booster vaccine would probably be required but this was better than having bodies piled like cordwood in the streets.
That's how this works kids, sorry about the inconvenience to your daily routine but there are plenty of countries with bodies being piled like cordwood in the streets because they still don't have sufficient access to the hurriedly prepared vaccine, let alone the booster shots required because their populations and the anti-vaxxer populations have allowed this virus to mutate into new forms that require new vaccines.
It's science and not belief based thinking that is going on here and yet I still see some agnostic/atheists questioning science because of beliefs. Do what you are going to do, die on you position if your must but please at least wear a mask so you don't take too many others with you.
Yes I studied Life Sciences with a specialty in microbiology and genetics but I switched to business because that's what paid the bills.

If only it worked that way but unfortunately it just means that they provide a breeding ground for new and more deadly variants that can leap the vaccination barrier. Sure a lot of the stupids will die but they will take a lot more of us with them because they are walking petri dishes for the virus.
@SnowyOwl that actually remains to be seen until after the imminent booster.
@AnneWimsey Which one? This is a coronavirus so very closely related to the Influenza virus. I expect this to go on for decades because once you let the genie out of the bottle it keeps morphing so you can't put it back in.
@SnowyOwl my flu shot every year could contain a few more things if necessary...so what?
@AnneWimsey So what? I have never had a flu shot but I am trained as a microbiologist and therefore I got the double jab for Covid and I will be expecting booster shots to come along as the Covidiots continue to deny the virus and refuse to be vaccinated, this will of course allow for more variants of the virus which will require boosters until the Covidiot Petri Dish exterminates itself and a lot of smart people along with them.
@SnowyOwl smart people will get vaccinated, therefore it is a Good Thing that the dumb ones won't. Why pray tell do you not get the flu shot? I haven't had flu for 20-some years, vividly remember how ghastly it was.
@AnneWimsey I didn't get the flu shot because (a) I wasn't part of the at risk group 
I have a healthy lifestyle and no underlying risk conditions and 
the flu shot is often hit and miss because the Influenza virus has the ability to morph dramatically but the flu shots have become a cash cow for the pharmaceutical industry and they shoot for the middle ground but often miss.
If smart people get vaccinated it still doesn't eliminate the half of the population that allows themselves to be a breeding ground for the virus and further allows for the development of new strains of the virus that can jump the vaccination barrier.
It would be nice if there were a Stupidity Virus that only eliminated the Fuckwits of the world but that's not how microbiology works.
