It seems the war in Ukraine is being seen by many Xian leaders as the sign we are in the last days...again. Pat Robertson sees it as proof positive that GOD is on his way and will do something amazing in the near future to prove his arrival prior to judgment while the JWs are saying "We're living in the final part of the last days. Undoubtedly, the final part of the final part of the last days, shortly before the last day of the last days."

That's an exact quote. It sounds to me like someone asking: "What time are we going to the movie?" and getting the response "We must leave at the optimum hour so we are not late. The optimum minute of the optimum hour at the optimum hour down to the final second of the final minute of the optimum hour."

Do you have any idea what time we're going to the movie? No! Of course not because that was a non-answer of no useful information while trying to sound like a detailed reply. We call this sort of thing, bullshit and religion can't function without it.

What this world needs at present is less brainwashed fatalist religionists…who are just gagging for end times so that their illusions of everlasting life in heaven with a divine creator can be validated….and more leaders of vision and human ingenuity, who are determined to reach out to overcome the divisions we humans have created for ourselves on this planet earth and in concert with others of goodwill, resolve to overcome them.

You are absolutely right, we do need fewer brainwashed, fatalistic, religionists. The 'end times' and Armageddon they constantly spout, which never seems to happen, are just ploys, I think, even they know are baloney. It's all about attention. I have mentioned this before and see it in play all the time, these people say they can't wait to meet Jesus - but not just yet.

13

Yes they thought that about the Black Death too, and the Plague of Justinian and the mini ice age caused by the eruption of Tambora, and Halley's Comet ............

It's probably in the hundreds by now.

Eschatology is in the DNA of nearly every Christian, as from the earliest believers on down to the present, events, both geopolitical and natural, have inevitably been seen as signs of the so-called Second Coming. Christians are sick puppies (I used to be one) who believe our collective existence on this planet is little more than a waiting room for what comes next, and practically all of them have thought that their generation was living in the Eschaton.

Yet, despite this certainty of eternal happiness, none of them want to die and will struggle against it if it were to happen. They never say "Yeah! Inoperable brain cancer! Sweet! Jesus, here I come!"

@Sgt_Spanky Well, I’ve known plenty of Christians (including my own family members) who died extremely peacefully, almost happily, believing that the next thing they would see following their “slumber” was the face of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They almost welcomed their deaths and never once “raged against dying of the light.”

@p-nullifidian And they never have to deal with the reality that there is no afterlife and no Jesus to wake up to.

Pat Robertson, the gift of stupidity that keeps on giving.

...and never dies either. What is he now, 200, 250 years old? The guy has the halflife of plutonium.

11

No shit, Sherlock! That asshole has predicted the same shit many times and always wrong, but does any of the imbecile followers ever question his accuracy? Nyet!

9

Not only are his followers mentally unbalanced they are also without empathy. Every time I read about one of his cruel pronouncements, I understand the phrase ,my blood boiled, a little better.

When your god is embodied by a corpse nailed to a post, it's pretty clear that it is a death cult. The Xstians like to talk about unconditional love but the real meat and potatoes is always about death, destruction, hellfire and damnation.
The JW's have given a hard date for Armageddon several times in their history, each time it failed to occur and each time membership plummeted, so they are a little hesitant to pick precise dates anymore. I think my older brother who was an elder with the JW's said that Armageddon would occur before the last of the JW's born before 1914 had gone to the grave. So that seems unlikely unless there are still 107 year old JW's still around but religions have a unique way of telling the time, generally speaking. Jesus said he would be back 'soon' and that was more than two thousand years ago, assuming he ever existed at all.

Buncha truly frightened And bored people, they gotta have Drama!

6

Christians (especially The Jehovahs Witless's and their predecessors the Millerites) have been saying this for the last 2000 years, they haven't been right yet.

6

I think they said something similar about the 9-11 attacks.

They latch on to any tragedy or disaster like a dog humping your leg.

Hardly even a week goes by without Christfool Doomsayer stating that " The End of Days is Coming," or "Jesus is returning on such and such a day."
But guess what, it HAS never happened yet and probably never will as per these 'predictions' made by the Faithfools, BUT somewhere in the 4.5 to 5 BILLION years the END of ANYTHING living on this planet and probably this planet as well WILL vanish from the Solar System as the dying Sun expands ever outward an engulfs the 3 or 4 planets closest to it.

6

And even if he did exist, how do you know he does not like atheists the best ?

@Fernapple We're certainly a lot more fun and likable than the Xians are.

@Sgt_Spanky

Some of us, anyway.

@Sgt_Spanky, @Fernapple

Even if he did exist, why should anybody care?

@Toonman Certainly, I am.

@Toonman God is like aliens on a planet around a distant star, their existence or not, makes no difference to us at all as long as they stay quiet. But if we detect a message then that could be very important to us. But then you have to face the fact that there are a hundred thousand claims of god's message, many of them contradictory and most of them not worthy of the author. Yet if aliens were advanced enough to send us a message, you can bet your bottom dollar, that with that level of technology, they could manage to make it clear and plain.

@Fernapple I prefer Secular Humanist to atheist as people are perfectly capable of having decent ethics without religion. When religious folks give me the crap about going to hell I ask them to prove that I am less ethical than they are, there is no good retort for them to use.

@MizJ Yes he may like them too. Though the two are not mutually exclusive. Generally I call myself an agnostic atheist in fine company. But just atheist most of the time, because most people would not understand that anyway.

@Fernapple Some religious types seem to view the term atheist negatively, less so the term agnostic. The fun thing about using Secular Humanist is watching them scratch their butt and figure it out...or not.

@MizJ The four are not mutually exclusive, fortunately.

@Fernapple Of course not. However the choice of words can can play a big role in coloring or biasing how something is perceived. Some of the sketchier news organizations here inn the US are very aware of this. Three words. Rob, steal, abscond. All have a similar meaning yet our perception of the matter would be vastly different.

I heard all that same bullshit during the seven days war with israel and egypt. They're always trying to find a sign for the end of days so that they can say, convert now before it's too late. You'd think that the continuance of the world would cause some to question, but no, they just double down like neurotic deluded fools.

They've all been wrong so many times you'd think they'd have gotten a clue by now. Nope. Not even a trace of a clue.. Either religion makes you stupid or it attracts stupid people. Either way, there's a lotta stupid in religion.

6

Something wonderful to prove his arrival?

Stopping the shelling of hospitals and schools?

Pushing the Russians back to Moscow?

I know! Bringing all those innocents back to life!

With the possible exception of Tucker Carlson is there a bigger waste of meat than Pat Robertson?

God doesn't do that. Whatever it he does it'll be something big and showy but impractical and useless to anyone.

@Sgt_Spanky

Exactly my point.

I thought backward song lyrics were the end of world... NO?

twill Level 7 Mar 19, 2022

Yea…….Listen to Venoms “Black Metal” and “Welcome to Hell”……you’ll hear everything you want to hear listening to it in the right direction.

If you play Mary had a Little Lamb backwards, it's a plea to Satan to eat all the little children.

Believers all feel so important that they have to be a part of "the last days." It becomes more real to them if they are living it as it happens right now. Robertson, the JW's, and others have been calling it for years. They forget that their holy book itself says this cannot be done. It does not stop them because they personalize their faith.

My long time religious friend told me he believed he was living in the last days. I guess he was. He died a little over a month ago. Yes, he died a Christian and I cannot see him talking to Jesus or god. His dead body did not go anywhere and his spirit was his life. This all ended because he is now dead.

4

Well, they're fucking morons, so...

You and I are openly contemptuous of religion and its practitioners and neither of us is apologetic about it. It may not be PC but it's who we are. 👍

@Sgt_Spanky Absolutely.
With all the harm they cause, I see no reason to be any other way.

3

The thumpers see the Last Days in everything.

3

Robertson is full of sh*t!

2

If you were to ask me I'd have to say that," imo the likes of Pat Robertson and the rest of the Holy Rolling Circus of Clowns, Fools and Dimwits would hard pressed to know their arse from their elbow EVEN with an illustrated book of Anatomy to help guide them.

People in my community pray daily for this war to end. And I am confident people around the world do the same thing. My son is a student in the UK, and I know he is far from the war zone, but I constantly worry about things escalating. Recently more news channels speculate that the war is coming to an end. I try to read different sources, but it seems pravda.com.ua doesn’t bring anything positive to the table. Maybe you know some reliable channels that never post fake news? It’s tough to judge who is right and who is wrong. I pray for everyone out there- be safe!

Pat Robertson obviously doesn't have much time left for Jesus to return to be on this side of life. Robertson might not have the same degree of influence on the other side. Just sayin'. He must be Very anxious for the end to come.

Jesus predicted his return while some listening to him speak in the flesh were alive to witness it. Mormons get around this bit of failed prophesy by claiming the Apostle John (if I remember correctly)was granted a reprieve from death to continue to preach Jesus message.

When, joyfully for those whom he has riled, annoyed, alienated FINALLY and PERMANENTLY drops off the twig the Medical Profession will have a rough time in determining if Pat Robertson is still alive and breathing or just dong one his usual 'pretences' to keep the gullible enthralled in his scam artisan ploys and trying to fleece them of even more cash.
