Just had or should I say TRIED to have to have, a phone conversation with Henry's Mum, Naomi.
It seems that young Henry has once again expressed his growing Atheism and up-set a substitute Teacher who is religious.
About 9.30 this morning the Teacher asked the class " Who is going to Church on Sunday to pray to God and talk with Jesus?"
To which my somewhat forthright and outspoken nephew responded according to the School Principal with, " Why, they don't exist, they are just Fairy tales made up to scare people and kids, I'm going with Mum and Dad to a Club and we are going have lunch there and talk to people who are real and listen as we."
It seems the my nephew, by stating the truth, made the Teacher break out in tears and run, crying her eyes out, from the classroom.
No, Henry has NOT been suspended nor sentenced to detention BUT the Teacher by circumventing school policy and attempting to preach religion may well be finding herself facing up to the Principal instead of Henry.
Oh and, his Mum and Dad are going to reward him with an evening tonight of any movies he selects on dvd as well as a Nut Sundae for dessert tonight.
And from his Uncle, a nice crisp 10 dollar noteand a very large container of his favourite, my home-made Cheeseslaw.

So many stories I have heard from my late, strongly atheist partner while she was growing up and going to school in Iran. She was always being given notes to take to her mother and even got a visit from an irate teacher.

I love this! Kudos to Henry, he and kids like him are the future of realism in life!

$10 note, that is mighty nice of you.

Hey don't knock it, ALL my small change, from 5 cents pieces right through to the odd 1 and 2 dollar coins go in to large jar for Henry which he has to count off and tally up every time the jar is full,
I started that 2 days after he was born and so far, in just over 8 years, he has banked over $780 and has a full jar sitting here ready for the sorting, counting and banking already as well.

@Triphid How old is young Henry?

I would say Henry deserves that ten spot, and with inflation, probably more! Id give him ten and I don't even know the kid!

@misstuffy Have fears, the "Henry Money Jar" as he calls it is now also full and awaiting his arrival to count it all out and then get Mum or Dad to take to the bank and deposit it in to his account for him.

@Jolanta 8 years old, will be 9 in November but sometimes we all think that he is a young body with an old and wise head on it though.

Well spoken young man, we need a whole lot more of them and young women as well!

Thank you, we all try our best with Henry.

Good for the kid on standing up for what he believes.

However, I worry a little about cruelty to the feeble minded. True, truth is truth. However, some people need to be introduced to the facts more gently than other. Yet, that clearly is not the kids job, and the teacher should have known better.

But still exposing a kid to rewards when someone else was distressed by his (justifiable) actions is a little troubling to me.

What the child said, even if not embellished by Triphid. (Oh goodness No! Not at all possible!) Was not aggressive in the slightest.
I certainly would not be reduced to tears and run from a room if a little fundie kid told me I was going to burn in Hell because I said the earth was billions of years old.

Well you're entitled to YOUR opinion and a one fly told the other regard the Fly-paper, " Just stick to it."

@BufftonBeotch FYI, I NEVER " embellish" anything, I prefer to leave that onerous task to those who are far better experienced at it such as Christfools, Priest and the like.

@Triphid I love the accounts. Whatever they be.

@Triphid Strong opinions is what you and I have in common, my friend. Keep on keeping on!! 😀

Maybe the feeble minded was crying because deep down, she knows the kid was right!

@misstuffy Possibly true. I think my objection comes from being "raised" by someone who could be so described because of her religiosity. She had a desire to be a better, more competent person, but had no idea how to improve. She put an immense amount of "faith" into religion thinking that was the way to improve. There was an emotional/mental barrier of some kind there. I seem to have gotten past it on my own, but there was no explaining it to her. Eventually, I saw her as a "sad" person, always wanting to be better, but having no idea how to get there. ..... Godswill and all that, I guess.

@Normanbites Imo, having opinions is fine, having strong opinions is even better and then having those strong opinions AND not fearing to express them is even better.

Love that kid!!!!

BTW why was it a "tried to have" conversation, were you both laughing so much, was she so furious at the school?

Because I was laughing too much to speak and wanted to ask when next Henry will be taking the "Draco" out to the Twin Lakes for another sail.
For those who may missed it when I posted it a few weeks ago, meet the Draco, hand-made, unsinkable and sits perfectly up-right on its keel in water.

Good for him

More here in America should be this outspoken.

It has been said that it is better to be "mean",which can be cured, than to be stupid which is harder to relegate. Obviously this so-called teacher has a problem when dealing with basic information: nothing has ever come back from the dead; that includes dinosaurs, cockroaches- or anything between.

I had a quick look online, the teacher should be following the Australian legislation. The Education and Training Reform Act stipulates that public school education must be secular. Schools are not permitted to promote “any particular religious practice, denomination or sect, and must be open to adherents of any philosophy, religion or faith”

Teacher could be in a lot of trouble with the principal if the parents complain.

Unless Henry and family don’t live in Oz?

Thank you for that background information. I was abused by an evil bastard of a headmaster in 1963, and I am delighted that Act now exists. The shameful bitch of a teacher to which @Triphid refers needs to be severely reprimanded (at least) or kicked out of the profession entirely (at best).

Edit: I would cheerfully spit upon the grave of that headmaster.

@anglophone No worries, glad that the info was helpful.

My opinion is that working in those types of jobs is a privilege, not a right and that the outcome should be loss of employment. She’s a substitute, so clearly knows better.

Should also add the Henry's mother can put a complaint in with the NSW teacher's registration board

[etams.nesa.nsw.edu.au]

If a teacher loses their accreditation they can no longer teach (in that state at least)

@Zealander Last time I looked Broken Hill, New South Wales WAS still in Australia so unless the Universe has gone arse up and skew-whiff since sunset yesterday then I still MUST be in Australia.
Please feel most welcome to refresh your memory by checking out the information via an Atlas.

@Triphid It is possible that people do not know where members of your family live and were not presuming they lived near you.

@Budgie Precisely, people live all over the place now.

@Budgie The main crux of my reply to @Zealandia was in regard to his comment of and I quote,
Unless Henry and family don't live in Oz.
ergo, imo, HAD be bothered to think or research first and then formulated his reply/response then perhaps, JUST perhaps he would have been add 2 and 2 together rather merely jumping to a conclusion.

@Triphid Thanks for clarifying that Henry lives nearby you in NSW.

Can you please explain to me how I’d be aware that Henry and family actually live in Australia? And how I was jumping to conclusions re his whereabouts?

I was aware that you did, given that the post I submitted mentioned Australian legislation.

The quote had a question mark at the end.

“Unless Henry and family don’t live in Oz?”

The question mark signified that I wasn’t sure of Henry’s whereabouts from the information provided in the post. People make phone calls all over the world these days. I could have assumed (possibly incorrectly) that he was living in Oz.

Therefore my question was reasonable, given the lack of detail re Henry’s location in your post.

In my opinion, Budgie was making a valid comment.

@Zealandia Oh my humblest of apologies O Lord and Master for failing to inform thee in advance.
Is it not a HUGE possibility that, as would most others do and have done, merely take it for granted after reading my many postings regard my nephew, Henry, our interactions, etc, etc, over the last few years and more that they, like myself are not ONLY Residents of Australia but also of the same TOWN?
Perhaps, and I am considering, very slightly though I must say, next time I may, just for your benefit TRY my utmost to use words of 2 syllables or less just to ensure you do NOT get so confused.

@Triphid Not sure what objective this answer achieved.

Relies on the assumption that I’ve closely read your postings and am aware of where Henry lives. Which is incorrect.

The post was actually intended to be a curious and friendly question. Clearly this tone was interpreted incorrectly.

@Zealandia " A curious and friendly question" you say.
May one enquire as whether or not you have actually bothered to check the Bios , etc, of ANY of those with whom you communicate on here perchance?

Always glad to see a young person be outspoken against nonsense.
Also intrigued by Cheeseslaw. It is a new one for me.

6

As someone who was forced into RI lessons in school (because my parents had ticked yes and I was not allowed to change it) I spoke up or completely ignored the RI teachers. Eventually the school did not make me go as I was "too disruptive" ie I contradicted the RI teachers.
If a normal teacher had said that to me they would have been told point blank that they are not allowed to talk like that at school and I would have left the room to report them. Good on Henry who is doing it at a much younger age than me (being brought up with religious parents tends to make you question it a bit later)

Young Henry has a critical mind, wonderful parents, and an awesome uncle.

The teacher on the other hand needs to be deprogrammed.

Betty Level 8 May 20, 2022

She also made a grievous insult to the First People of this country.

@anglophone There is no excuse for ignorance and disrespect.

5

Teacher is in the wrong profession.

She's in the wrong institution.

@Betty The local funny farm (sorry, I should call it by its correct name: lunatic asylum) might be better suited to her needs.

@anglophone Bugger, you beat me to it again, that was exactly what I was thinking.

@Triphid Oh well. I will beg for your forgiveness in that case.

@anglophone You read my mind. Don't do it too often, you might get lost. 😉

7

That is absolutely delicious!

The substitute teacher is in the wrong job. She lacks the knowledge, the personal authority and the brains to teach anybody.

You can't allow brainwashed people access to young minds.
