Did anyone else grow up believing that they would go to jail if they cut the label off their mattress or comforter? They've since added "except by the consumer". Maybe they'll let those other people out in the spring 🤣

I remember being freaked out about that as a young kid. My mother explained ii . Grabbed a pair of scissors and we went around the house snipping them all.

If you believed this, be sure to watch the cameo appearance by Liam Neeson in the movie Ted 2. Neeson is very concerned that he is violating the law by purchasing Trix.

They were supposed to be cut off by the consumer.
It was to prevent the sale of used mattresses.
Which was spreading disease and vermin back then.

It didn't say that on the labels back then.

@TheoryNumber3 It should have just said. "Cut off this tag when you buy it. "
No one wants a typhoid bed.

In my little town, I grew up believing god keeps his eye on us all. But I didn't learn about the tags until a comic pointed them out in the 70's.

2

Most things in my house (pillows, blankets etc.) still have them on! The washing instructions are usually on the back or attached. That and I have had the stiches come out of the item when I tried to pull the damn tag off. Easier just to let them on.

Never had them in Australia that I can recall.
I must have live a deprived childhood, As I did own several pairs of good scissors.
No one notice the irony of the label?? made by blanket yaba yaba Canada
Made in China
I am confused is Canada a Chinese province??

Yes.

Almost everything's made in China !

I can remember being very frustrated by those labels as a child. Now I can't stand it to see one of those labels on any of my pillows.

2

I remember seeing them and grabbing a pair of scissors running from room to room to cut them off and my mother yelled, “Stop running with those scissors. You are going to fall and stab yourself.”

We are constantly losing or ruining pillows at work, so there's a steady supply of new ones rotating into the stock. Every time I clean one, I tear the labels off and say this line. I'm sure my coworkers are over it, but every once in a while a patient gets a good chuckle out of it.

I also can't resist when I see a used urinal near a bedside saying, "Hey, do you know who's bottle of warm lemonade this is? It's not mine, must be urine."

I was a teenager when I learned about those tags. Ever since then I've been ripping them off with glee--to the horror of a few friends (with whom I helped make the bed).

4

Nope! Always cut them off, and do to this day.

GASP! I'm calling the cops, you felon!

@TheoryNumber3 It's not illegal. They just want you to think it is.

@KKGator You mean the cops never came to your house for a mattress tag check?

@TheoryNumber3 Those were murder.

@TheoryNumber3
I've been evading the tag law for years due to tag violations. Catch me if you can! Bwahahaha!

Years ago I used to believe this. LOL
