One of the most apt cartoons ever. Over the next two years, the Rs might be eager to get rid of the majority so they can just gripe and not have to accommodate the loonies. Not as much work as governing.

The MAGA faction has no interest in governing. They just want to pull out all the wires, burn the house down.

@Flyingsaucesir I guess they figure if it worked for Trump it can work for them.

@alliwant Did it work for tRump? He lost in 2018, 2020, and 2022.

Please, please, don't let it stop...

It had better stop before the debt ceiling has to be raised.

@Flyingsaucesir I believe that gives us until May. The Debt ceiling has never been challenged in court and may not be legal under the constitution, this might give us a chance to eliminate that burr under our saddle.

@Flyingsaucesir August, I’m told.

@rainmanjr Lawrence O'Donnell said September...

@Flyingsaucesir I've heard/read three or four different dates. That's how much Americans know (even our so-called Journalists).

@rainmanjr Apparently there is no fixed date. I guess it depends on how fast the government spends money, among other factors.

@Flyingsaucesir Nonsense. I guarantee you that the date is well known to ML Chuck, Minority Speaker Mitch, POTUS Joe and the WH staff. It is a close of budget issue so at the end of 3rd Quarter (October) is the likely deadline.

@rainmanjr
"Neither the Treasury nor the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has issued a formal report on when Congress must enact debt limit legislation in 2023 to avoid wide-reaching consequences of not being able to meet its obligations in full and on time, often known as the “X date.” Outside groups that closely track the debt ceiling, however, have estimated that the X date could arrive no earlier than the third quarter of 2023, which would begin in July."

@Flyingsaucesir The debt ceiling is BS in its purest form. It is artificially created to try to rein in spending, which it never does. All the House has to do is repeal the damn thing and it is gone. One less way for the GQP to blackmail the country.

@alliwant True, but an artifice or not, it can still be used to gum up the works (i.e. shut down the government).

While they publicly claim motivation of policy, they want to "jump the line" and get better assignments. As @HippieChick58 says, they are on a power trip.

D'oh!

They're on power trips.

Exactly.
