For those of us that have been on this site for awhile, being at least a couple months or more; what have you learned about that you feel has either helped you, educated you on some level or has been an eye opening experience. It can be something really profound and meaningful or just something simple and noteworthy.

I haven't learned anything really apart from there are a lot more people worth chatting to here than anywhere else.

To me the dissapointment of,the constant mention of religion, god and church. In my circles I can go for months without the mention of god as a friend or foe except for my interaction with this site were is a current theme. Daily. I dropped that crap as a child. Never in need to bring it up. I don't bash or seek to validate, I am not an atheist militant at war with god, church or religion. I ignore those aspects of those next to me. I don't expect everyone to be like me. I wasnt hurt by religion.

I know what you mean - ive been an atheist for over 40 years, so im comfortable with it - no need to discuss it daily

@SKETCHYZOMBIE moving forward aithout looking back.

@gater I do tend to agree with you on that.. it's been established, that is why we all, well most of us, are here to begin with. I do think some go a bit over the top with it and there's really no need to.

@mistymoon77 I think some that are new to atheism need to affirm their beliefs by others.

@SKETCHYZOMBIE You got it WRONG go to a soccer site and start talking football. It is a freed Slave that carry around the chains and shackles and want to talk nothing but slavery.

I'm a Brit and began to think that all Americans were moronic, demented, over-sexed, gun-crazy, greedy, vicious psychopaths. The behaviour of your armed forces abroad, and your police/national guard in domestic situations at home, reinforced this opinion...shoot a volley of bullets, kill, then ask the corpse some questions! Then I came across this site and discovered Americans who are intelligent, humane, sensible, logical, generous, loving and kind. And who also have a nice sense of humour! It has been a wonderful discovery and has certainly dampened what was once my heated vociferous condemnation of all things American. Contributors to this site have been a revelation - I did not know such Americans existed so thank you one and all you beautiful people!

It is nice to find some very like minded folks here.

A lot of the things I have been saying for years I came here and there is a lot of people saying the same thing. Lets me know I am in the right place.

Totally feel the same way. When you feel at times, there is noone there discuss, vent, laugh, debate with about these subjects, you know you can do it here with like minded folks.

I feel I can be more open with people here than other places I've tried.

Thinking rationally when it comes to “a belief in a deity” does not mean that person will use rational thinking in other areas. Atheists also fall victim to thinking in a vacuum, having tribalist tendencies, and even reject opposing opinions (and sometimes facts) that would cause a change in position.

It’s okay to be wrong. It’s okay to put your foot in your mouth. It’s okay to look stupid. It stops being okay when you choose to do so after you know better.

Nothing profound from me. I stink at this virtual, digital world.

It’s like being in the whitness protection program. I live a relitivly normal life but nobody knows I’m here.

I'm not so sure about that. Some of us know you are here.?

I have been pleasantly surprised that I can say "God can go to hell" and no one really cares...... Try that one on Facebook, I dare you

2

I have found it to be an open, non condesending forum, even when questioning topics I'm not very familiar with, but curious about. Not always, have run into to some so called intellectuals who think they know everything and want you to bow down.

Kindness is a "super power" which builds strength as it is practiced.

Ugh... I can run but I can't hide!

I learned you will be tarred and feathered in the general forum or political forum for being pro gun rights and a Trump supporter. Very few people here are free thinkers and like to use gang mentality on people who don't conform.

On the bright side, I have interacted with some wonderful and positive non judgemental people, as well. Any group for the expression of arts is good.

You're absolutely correct and I found that ironic because we can say the most outrageous things about any religion or belief system and its either expected or understood. However, if you want to talk about some of those political issues then hell break lose if a particular view does not align with whatever. Heck, I've seen uncalled comments on things like the flag, the anthem, money.... My take on that is that we all should have the option to contribute via exchange of opinion as opposed to disqualification or any type of attack.

@IamNobody thank you....

I have experienced the same thing. Some people are highly critical if you don't think the way they do. The groups are more fun and interactive as they are more subject related and people are there because of just that.

I respect that you have a different outlook on things. I apologize for those that can not handle alternative opinions. Sort of how some folks react when I mentioned our previous President in a group I visit. Heated & emotional reactions are too common. Facts are ignored. This Commander in Chief is not helping to unite our nation. Incendiary & boorish.

Can't stop it, can't make it go.

Might as well sit back an enjoy the ride.

That there are,on here like everywhere else, people looking to scam us.just sayin.I thought this was supposed to be a cool group, but its turning out like so many others.I guess the nature of todays beast

you are going to run into that anywhere you go... there are always the scammers out there trying to ruin for everyone else.

Scam in what way? I'm new here, so please enlighten me before I get burned.

I feel that mostly there is this collective feeling that when I talk to another person (usually, except for that one guy-sheesh!) I can rest assured they may not feel exactly the same way that I do about all things spiritual, but at least they will still be open and accepting much more quickly of at least my conceptual nature of spirituality. I'm not quite so afraid of stepping on toes, peeing in cheerios or being politically correct (again, except for that one guy Jeezus Friendo)-so yeah.

Atheists and agnostics are very peevish.

Got any examples to back up your allegation? Hmm - thought not.

@bolshevik41 Your reply?

1

I have confirmed that amongst self affirmed agnostics, skeptics seem to be far fewer.
It seems that many, if not most folks are implicit Athiests or Agnostics, or both. By that I mean that for one reason or another they are not persuaded by whatever religious motif they grew up surrounded by, they saw heresy and corruption in religion, and set it aside as wanting without ever understanding it in a Dogmatic or Methodic fashion.
As such they have not applied that sharp razor of skepticism to things like "Energies", "Ghosts", "Souls", "Life after death" and so on.

Yes, there are may here that know what and why they feel the way they do about religion. Many it seems like, feel safe being here because they can speak their mind and come out of the dogma closet.

Is getting a 100% or 99% a common occurence???

Not sure what you are referring to.

I've had a few. No idea how they come up with it.

@mistymoon77 When you come up on my screen there's a red heart with71% but I'm a complete novice at this and really apprehensive (nervous) about it.

@Grassy oh your pertaining to the compatibility thing they do on here.. ya I don't know, my guess is they have some sort of percent system set up according to how people answer the questions they have.
