The limited liability companies, buried under layers of business names, overlapping employees and addresses in at least three states, form a network more tangled and opaque than the one created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is buying a giant amount of Nebraska ranch land.

This is old news. It has been known for a long time that Gates owns a lot of farmland.
There is nothing unusual about a rich guy investing his money in farmland. Ted Turner owns two million acres of farmland.
Gates is doing what most big holders of farmland are doing: renting the land to farmers, who grow crops for domestic consumption and export.
The Gates Foundation is also deeply involved in research and education to help farmers around the world maximize production.
If the Gates holdings are so opaque, how is it we know about them?
well go fuck him if you love him that much
And that woud be anybody's business because....?
