They are simply following what they were taught, ignoring their own ability to think, and making themselves feel better if "their team" won. Like they are in some way "special".

Excuse me for dipping my oar in; I am not a Christian and never was. But as an outsider I have a uniquely unbiased point of view. To wit: God doesn't have a plan, because God doesn't exist.
