The slaughter of those babies in their classroom at Sandy Hook elementary.

I kept it together at work, but came home sat down on the couch. My friend's dog jumped up and nestled her head under my arm and licked my face.

I took her in my arms and just cried like I hadn't in ages. I also raged and screamed.

Seeing the pictures of those precious faces still can make me misty eyed. They should be middle school students by now.

It makes me cry to 'hear' you relate it BB. Sometimes I think animals are the best at providing solace. Sending love xxx

@Abbelyne They do seem to be a salve at times.

Only a few times, but they all had to do with the health of my children.

  1. When my oldest son was diagnosed with cancer.
  2. When my toddler was diagnosed with diabetes.

I guess mostly I cry when faced with the fear of the mortality of one of my family members. I just want to check out before anyone I love does.

Yes, it's so hard isn't it........ but hang in there. They need you!

The death of my wife, and every time I watch Cinema Paradiso.

I'm so sorry for your loss GR. Thank you for sharing such an intimate experience.

4

The opening sequence of "Up". O. M. G. Just stick a knife in my heart and twist that shit.

I cry occasionally about personal issues, but I can have my waterworks turned on by either the death of animals in movies or those damn sentimental Pixar flicks.

I don't think I can ever watch up again.

Ed Asner was the perfect choice to give voice to that character though.

I haven't seen 'Up' or the 'Pixar flicks', but thanks for the tip-off. (I'm not a v brave person!)

Loss of loved ones, my children, stress, my journey toward unf*cking myself through therapy, 9/11, school shootings, the 2016 election, my divorce, and on the bad days my depression.

I'm glad you've found some support S! xxx

4

Mostly depression.

Seriously, I know you don't know me from proverbial Adam, but just know that you have other atheist and agnostic people who give a damn about you whether we have met you or not... If you feel depressed, drop me a line I would love to talk to you... I'm actually a pretty fucking funny guy and I have no doubt I can cheer you up and make you feel better when you need it...kkarstens@cableone.net

@Karcreat YES! thank you K...........please get yourself cloned as soon as conveniently possible........ we need many more like you!

Tons of things. Probably the most common is physical pain and frustration.
Being disabled sucks. I won't lie that it makes me cry.

Love and peace to you SA.....

...i hope the best for you
Ava,,,if you ever care to talk,,,

Kids, TV, work, death, elections, fat, kittens, men, women, babies, online trolls, doctors, memes, pms, kidney stones, really funny jokes...

I'm glad there's some happy reasons in that list MA

There are certain Tom Waits songs that get me every time.....

Yep, Tom Waits can have that effect on me too.....

My ex threatening to take my children away. Didn't happen. But endured that bad relationship for almost 30 years. Longer sentence than Nelson Mandella.

Nelson Mandella went on to be a great leader.....

@Abbelyne But I've still got the jailer on my back. Not really get on better separated and do drop in on her and help when needed.

@Dooley So what are your plans for the future D?

@Abbelyne Not sure. But your profile sounds very much like me except for the speeling bit. Do have dyslicksic tendencies. Any suggestions?

@Dooley Lol........ are you asking me to plan your future for you D?

@Abbelyne Certainly not. Have no plans at the moment. Just doing what I'm doing. There are other options that I've considered but my mind is still open. BTW I have a brother in Perth. Visited him years ago and closest I got to where you are was Collie. Camped there for a few days. And like your WA wildflower pics.

Birth of my daughters. Crying when their mothers broke it off. Daily since im far away from one of my kiddos and all i can do is skype her daily. My grandma/cousin dying. Finding out recently one of my exes that chatted with me every so often to see how the other was doing killed herself and thats why she didnt respond to my last couple messages. Spartacus ending, Vikings when he talks about his daughter after she died. Guardians 2 at the end (unresolved dad issues? I dunno lol) St. Judes commercials. I could go on and on, but honestly I guess I cry too much looking at this. I have wayyyy too much empathy if thats such a thing.

Wow MBS, I sincerely hope you have someone you can talk to about all this. Take good care of yourself.

On the lighter side, kid's movies... Toy Story 2, when they're holding hands being dragged into the trash compactor and the end of Incredible Journey, when the old dog shows up alive. Serious, my baby brother killed himself, I was maintaining okay(if numb) until I called my sister, I just choked when I said it aloud and all my grief burst out.

Such a tragic loss B. The grief never goes away, but being able to cry does release some pressure. Thanks for sharing this with us.

@Abbelyne Just noticed when you called me B, Buttercup was my favorite and sweetest guinea pig( I've had lots) cried when I lost her. I was a bit skeptical of this site when I signed up and picked the name. I name the boys after ancient Greeks and the girls after flowers. Tulip, Lily, Plato, Sophocles, and Ajax to name a few.

@Abbelyne One more thing, I have distant cousins in Perth, Imblum, my mothers maiden name. They wouldn't know me and probably not her.

@Buttercup Well I'm confused B......... are you a woman then?

@Abbelyne Just a guy who likes girly stuff. The name was spur of the moment I really wasn't thinking anyone would ever call me by it. James for business, or Jimmy (mostly) and JT to my oldest and most intimate friends

@Buttercup Hello James...... Jimmy......... (gasp dare I say it)......... JT........ am I being inappropriately intimate? 😉

Instead of saying all the bad things that have happened in my life to make me cry, I am going to say whatever i can find , i try to cry twice a day to help lower my Cortisol, the stress hormone

Ah yes, some logic behind the action........ and thanks for explaining the physiology too B6661.

At least since I have been eighteen years of age, I cannot recall even one incident that made me cry. I've been through alot in my still relatively young life, and have watched too many family members and friends get buried prematurely, life's experiences have seriously diminished my emotions and feelings. Crying never helped me much anyway when I was a kid.

Strangely, my crying (That is to say, having rears in my eyes to wipe away as opposed to sobbing) is always related to happiness.

3

Having anger makes me cry or being too stressed. Or my recent setback in life made me cry for about 2-3 days in a row.

Tears of anger and frustration eh S? Hope you're on the top of the world today!

@Abbelyne Not last night. I hope today I will be. It will be 87°F tomorrow! Ugh. ?

@Sarahroo29 Come to Australia, it's a perfect time of year........ autumn and sunny day around 26C 😀

@Abbelyne You have giant bugs and lizards.

@Sarahroo29 Yep, but very cuddly giant bugs and lizards............. and snakes and sharks.......... and those Aussies too...... 😉

@Abbelyne It's the scorpions and spiders you have to beware. They're in Southern Spain also. But the snakes here are pretty tame - when they see you the vipers usually scram as fast as they can.
Unlike Kenya, where the venomous snakes hold their ground, and are truly deadly. A bit like your in Oz.

@Abbelyne No thank you for the spiders. Yuck.

@Sarahroo29 OOooops........ it looks as if Petter has just ruined any chances of extracting some tourist $$$ out of you S29 😉

@Abbelyne Lol.

@Sarahroo29 😀

Most recently: Hopelessness; the sadness of my son; not standing up for myself.

And allergies. Damn they are bad.

Yeah, allergies bad for me as well. (Sneezes)

Do allergies actually make you cry from the emotion of the experience, or is it a physiological thing......... watering eyes?

@Abbelyne It's a physical response, I think. Plus I have dry eye, which makes it worse. I've never had allergies it actually made me cry.

Tails of unrequited love, dysfunctional father & brother relationships, Saul & Chuck comes to mind recently in Better Call Saul, the Fringe father thing.

Yep, that kind of stuff resonates when we've experienced it ourselves eh!

3

Any display of kindness as shown on TV etc. always brings me to tears, or acts of concern for animals, I enjoy a good cry !!

Really! Maybe it reduces tension!

@I am sure it does.Abbelyne , just like laughter ! [ I have just done an injury to my leg today shopping, I struck my leg on the car door, I left the supermarket with a blood soaked trouser leg and everyone looking. I returned home and stained the carpet, I went to the bathroom to have a look. There was blood all over the floor and bath, I applied antiseptic and a patch. More blood poured out from under the patch. I fitted a tight bandage which stopped the flow.
Now to clean up the mess. I left my blood soaked trousers in a bath of cold water and fixed the problem elsewhere, half an hour later I went to my trousers and found, not a sign of blood !,,,,,, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry ! [ the consequences of being on blood thinners ]

@madmac Yes, I was thinking, anticoagulants when I was reading this. At times like these it's good to put thoughts of the injury first......... apply pressure with a wad of clean cloth and raise the injured part........ what people think (in a public place) and cleaning up the mess can wait until things have settled down. I hope the shock of it all has diminished MM. Take good care of yourself xxx

@Abbelyne Thanks for your suggestions

A good sentimental based on reality or uplifting movie.

Awww........ it takes areal man to admit that GoNS

@Abbelyne The way I look at it those are the only real men.... the rest that can't cry are incomplete proyects that may never reach their potential!

3

Animal cruelty.
I'm kind of indifferent to the human animals suffering.
But seeing or hearing of other animal abuse affects me hard.

Yep, I agree, it's v hard to take........ even passing those trucks full of sheep or cattle makes something shrivel up inside.....

For a week, I cried when my daughter was raped at age 19. Saw a counselor three times that week.

Appalling trauma LH! My heart goes out to you both xxx

@Abbelyne

Thank you. At 28, Claire still wakes up screaming, has PTSD and panic attacks after being raped. Years of counseling helped her.

The rapist attacked her when she was sleeping in her bed at college. He locked the door, beat her and raped her. Friends tried to break down the door to help Claire. Boys tackled him when he left the room and called the police.

Along with four other college students (girls), Claire took the him to court. She was retraumatized each time she testified in the other girls' trials and had to face the rapist again.

What infuriates me is the rapist's attorney convinced the judge not to register him as a sex offender. So the serial rapist could still go to law school.

Now a national law requires states to register all convicted rapists as a sex offender.

I cried non-stop for almost 3 days a few years ago when we had to take in our fourth fur baby to be put down...Nachorita Senorita, my very best friend for almost 20 years... She would ride around on my shoulders, wanted to sleep in my lap wherever I went and was constantly chattering and talking to me... The last breath that she took, she was purring... We only have one left now and when we take her in it will make 5 times we've had to do this, and I fear this next time is going to be the very worst of them as I have bonded so closely to Kissy since we lost Nacho... I'm pretty much prepared to break the 3-day record...

You're a v courageous woman K. I've stopped taking in animals because it's so painful to lose them.

@Abbelyne Actually, I'm a dude... which I suppose makes the whole crying thing take on a whole new light...LOL... I swear, so many people online presume I'm female for reasons I can't even begin to guess at... Oh well!...🙂

@Karcreat Hiya dude! 😉 Yep I wondered if I'd made a mistake after responding to another comment you made. I don't think your gender makes much difference unless you subscribe to old stereotypes. I'm pleased how many men have responded to this post! Anyway, I'll rephrase my message above....... You're a very courageous dude! Yeeaay......

@Abbelyne LOL... I know a lot of men would potentially get offended at being confused with a woman, but I genuinely admire women far more than I do men... So I kind of take it as a compliment, LOL again

@Karcreat I'm liking you more by the moment K 🙂

@Karcreat I like your Daark Valley vid.......... I'm certain you could make yourself a fortune with tailor made virtual reality for individuals on this site.......

@Abbelyne Many thanks and much appreciated, but I doubt I could do tailor-made virtual reality stuff, unless it could be made in miniature... nothing you see in that video save for a few of the opening exterior shots was made in a computer .....everything is made from odds and ends around my home... the sets average about 2ft by 3ft in size...but either way I'm really glad you liked it...

@Karcreat That sounds like an amazing amount of work. The thing that I most noticed was your ability to give people 'an experience'...........and one thing that contemporary society is lacking is certain types of beneficial experience......... Sometimes my brain runs away with me!

Bereavement

Forrest Gump

Requiem for a Dream

Loneliness

Requiem for a Dream? wow not weepy just psychotically depressed to the point of being scared to watch it again.

2

Only the death of beloved pets. Family not so much.

It's strange isn't it, that the loss of an animal often comes with the most acute pain!

The end of Benjamin Buttons.
